Okay,
after much delay, here's the lowdown.
The
band has just wrapped up initial recording in L.A.
However,
contrary to what we all may have believed, they were not recording the new
album. They were tracking demos for the new album, which means the actual
recording is yet to come.
So
if you've packed up a cooler and a sleeping bag and were on your way down to
your local record store, turn around, cause it'll still be a while.
Not
a Guns 'N' Roses Chinese Democracy while, but a regular band while.
Just
to whet your appetites though, I can say after spending a few days in the
studio and listening to about 10 other tracks at Jerry's house, the material is
definitely there.
I
remember way back in 1992 hearing early demos of Dirt tracks and thinking they
were amazing, then later on hearing the actual record and how much better it
all sounded.
This
is going to be the same I think. Getting blown away by a demo is a pretty damn
good sign, and I heard more than a few songs that got my heart racing and my
eardrums sweating.
And
for those of you who are rolling your eyes, I'm not comparing the new stuff to
Dirt, I'm just comparing the situation of hearing demos compared to finished
tracks.
In
this day and age it's nearly impossible to keep studio work under wraps until
it's released, but this is an extremely important album for this band, and
they're taking their time to insure that they deliver the very best record that
they can.
But
knowing that some of you out there are nearly dehydrated from drooling in
anticipation of any new information, I asked the guys if I could leak some song
titles. No.
Lyrical
content? No
Release
date? No
Album
title? No
A
few blurry studio shots documenting the horrific assemblage of facial hair that
has overtaken every member of this band? Yes.
So
for those of you who will be disappointed in the lack of detail in this
write-up, I apologize. Definitive answers are sometimes hard to come by with
this band, but this is how it's always been. They work at their own pace, they
don't stir up a lot of hype, they just make great music and let that do the
talking (except when they have me barf up a few paragraphs here and there).
Comparisons
and critiques will be inevitable, but what people should ultimately focus on is
the music, and after hearing what I've heard, I can't wait for every AIC fan
out there to wrap their ears around these new songs.
Just
be patient for a while longer...
