Cannot WAIT to hear the new material!! Saw them four times on the two tours they did. I like and respect the job Duvall did on the road. HOWEVER,  this is the acid test!!! Can this new material hold its own against the classic AIC???  I truly hope so because 99 percent of the music out now SUCKS BALLS!!!

I love the Baldy and i think he does a great job here. yes, i wish the guys would post. but they have there reasons i guess. and to HUH?? you should not pass judgement on those whom you do not know personally. you don't know the reasons why Jerry has not gone to LSF. But since the passing of his good friend Dime he may fear for crazies. who knows. but that's his business. but i'm sure it's not something that is out of him not caring about it. maybe it is hard for him as well. but as for Mr. Baldy thanks for all you do.

I think the excuses go waaaaaaay beyond what the band is allowed around here too.

As fas as I've EVER seen, (and it's been at least six years for me here on this board); NOT ONCE has Jerry posted here. (that includes cantrell.com too)  All I ever hear are fans sticking up for Jerry.  He's not a computer person, he just doesn't know how?!, his schedule didn't allow,so on, so on, so on, so on.

I can personally understand why he may be Scared to attend the LSF but there's just no reason why he can't even show up HERE especially not even once.  It's been far too long and I'm sorry but the guy can't be THAT busy, THAT shy, THAT stupid, THAT uncaring.  HE KNOWS just how important fans are cause afterall if ya don't got your fans than you've GOT NO CAREER.  ...  and I'm sure you can understand lynda31 what that's like.  Just imagine if NOONE showed for your shows!!  hehe....that would be a disaster.  And I can tell that you may understand what I'm trying to say here.  This post may not go over in the proper respects and I'm less mad than it may appear when someone reads this; but there's JUST NO MORE EXCUSES!!!!!!......There just isn't!!!!   peace!!!

Hey chill man, we all know Jerry is a  very private person.
If he doesn't want to say anything, then why should he.
If the band want to use baldy as their spokesman, then
why not.

Hey All said:

I personally think there's nothing wrong with the Baldy as a spokesman in fact he does it quite well.  But I have to agree, at least slightly with the above.  Why Cant Jer Bear come here once in a great-great while??!!  Private person or not; don't you or all you guys think it best to have him at least, if nothing else, acknowledge the fans.  I mean, come on, its not like he cant do public speaking.  he's on stage for christ sake.  And coming on this board can be done with others around and/or in the privacy of his own home.  Hell, he could jump on line (WITH) the Baldy at least once couldn't he??????
I personally do not see why this is such a big deal to him to come here!!  And its a bigger puzzle why you as loyal fans have to keep making up reasons for his absent behavior.  Throwing people a bone only enhances his loyal followers and respect for the guy.  I also agree that some times you guys treat him like he's sooooo high on top of this huge pedestal; that he refuses to step down from his high perch.  He's only human like the rest of us.  These days refusing to acknowledge his fans when there's sooo much internet and board interacting only makes him look old and out of touch.  It's not about chilling out it's about Jerry taking another go around with a new band called Alice in Chains.  Get his butt out there Baldy and shit; just say hello.....come on....is that too much to ask????...................................(i guess so........)  see ya!   Abbey

I've been reading this board (& other aic related) for a few years now ever since I got into their music.  I sometimes get confused because what I see and read here isn't really the reality of outside this board.  All the fans here sound like they'd do anything for these guys and they're so great; (and I'd agree), but outside this board; well....it's not really like that.  I have no one who enjoys them like myself.  I feel as though I'm in a very small minority and very alone.  I'm not sure why this is....All the guys are very important to the group....WHile I truely feel that William is doing a great job; I also feel that the original Alice would of sold out large venues if all the original members were intact, (that's kinda just the way it is and how people like it.......)  I wish the new Alice luck not because I think they are going to need it but the crunch of getting the new material out along with the waiting anticipation of their fans to here the new stuff; has got to be one hell of a pressure point on anyone.  When I think if that was me; I'd be nervous and stressed as all hell even if I truely believed in my music and thought it was gonna rock the faces off of their fans.......lol

Well, the bands that have members that post are few and far between. I've been here for so long, I'm just glad that they now create a buzz. The posts back in the years after Layne died were so slim(except for our tight circle) that you could plan to meet most of them in one field trip. I'm sooo glad that they are now touring again, and I've been so blessed to see them both times they have come through the ATL. Word is that they killed Velvet Revolver(and I think they did, because I was personally there to see the crowd leave AFTER AIC). Just keep yur heads up and wait for the new music! It's gonna' be KILLER! Mike

Can't wait for the new music -- how awesome! When I first read this news I pumped my fist in my cubicle -- would've yelled and jumped around a little, but my co-workers already think I'm nuts. They don't need the ammunition. :)

I don't really care if Jerry (or any of the guys) ever posts here. He doesn't owe me anything for being a fan -- beyond treating me like a human being if/when our paths cross in real life (which he did). Sure, I'd love to know what he's working on and hear about his creative process, but whatever reasons he has for staying silent -- he's entitled to 'em and they're really none of my business. Now, if Baldy decides to disappear, that'll be a dark day.

rooster - It was the same at the Clark County show. I stayed for the STP songs, but the rows around me were empty until the young gals crept forward to fill 'em.  My daughter would've left if I wasn't her ride. :)

I can't wait to hear new Alice in Chains material.  I wasn't very happy to hear that Layne Staley had been replaced, but having seen William DuVall performing live (twice!), I am beginning to accept him as the new singer for Alice, but this new album will ultimately be the deciding factor.

Also, on the subject of Jerry not talking to the fans through the website ...He doesn't have to.  He has poured his heart and soul into creating the amazing music that we listen to, and not only that, he and the rest of the band trek the globe just so we can hear and see the band performing these amazing songs for US!  And the fact that the band allows Baldy to show us photos, videos, and give us updates ...It is just SELFISH for any one of you to ask for MORE from a band that has already given you more than enough.  Have some appreciation.

I am also a little worried that I won't like it.  Don't get me wrong; part of me says that ANYTHING Alice puts out will be good/great.  But the other part of me thinks that the sound will be so different - and it should with a new singer - but I don't follow something just 'because'.....I follow something because I like/love it.  It would be stupid of me to feel that WHATEVER the guys put out; I'd like.

I totally agree with Alex ^^^^that the new album's gonna be the deciding factor as accepting Alice as they are NOW with the new singer.

To Alex: Creating music is not just a job to Jerry but a hobby and a passion that he's lucky to have made a living off of and his fans make up his success more than he cares to realize.   If you have no fans to come to your shows or buy your albums, then your career is over.  Selfish can go both ways.  Today is a new world from the world of the 90's.

To Mike the Rooster:  I totally agree with you.  I'm definitely for the new Alice in CHains, but just one thing I need to mention.  In the new music post on the board; you mentioned that you spoke to Nancy and her opinion was that Layne would want the band to move on.BUT, I know that Nancy didn't speak with Layne during the last few years of his life.  Layne was upset with her for going publically with some things in which he didn't like what she said. (on the radio)  She had good intention & hoped it would help him get well, but it back fired.  Layne was upset with her.  I only say this because Nancy although his Mother; and she is a most lovely, caring individual, but she really did not know, IN FACT, she never really knew how Layne REALLY felt about things.  And think about it; most of us who are very close to our parents; our parents STILL do not know our emotions or our "rock" side of our life.  They know us as a son or daughter.  I mean no disrespect towards her; again, she is very lovely and special but she really did NOT know what Layne really wanted.  I'm sorry.   Peace and love to her and all who read this but people need to know that.  MB

Not really sure why I feel the need to express this, but.........after listening to would  pretty much a half a dozen times over I decided to get more info. on layne staley's death. I was quite SHOCKED after reading about the condition that he was in because of his obvious drug induced lifestyle that caught up with him, how he was left (pretty much) out of sight out of mind for about 2 wks. wtf...is that all about? I have a hard time trying to comprehend the defination of friend/band member/ aka alice in chains. correct me if I'm completely off track...I don't understand!

I saw 2 shows with VR, yes they did kill them but dont think for even a second VR wasnt fantastic, they certainly were. Its an unfair comparison really, while VR is solid in every way they dont have time tested anthem-like tunes to play either, Alice does. Both shows were brilliant performances by both bands.

@Tabetha - Its not uncommon for people abusing substances to disappear. Ive had a friend go thru similar, thankfully he came around prior to dieing, but it was common he would disappear without a trace and nobody, friends/family/anyone, could reach him during these times. I dont know this for sure but I would expect Layne went thru bouts where he made himself unavailable to everyone.

tabetha said:

hey Ros or whomever!
Thanks for your reply, it helps (somewhat). I've never had a friend/family member etc...go through any sort of substance abuse on that level so...I can't speak from experience, and I could only assume from articles of his death, that he had no intentions of trying to quit, but it still rubbed me the wrong way--how someone in that condition could be left for about 2 wks is still beyond me--He was so out of it, that someone (friend, family) could have easily picked his ass up and off they went to a hospital. Regardless, I'm very angry and disappointed by that lack of communication between Layne and his (so called band members).

...but as they say "what's done is done!" He's so better off where he's at now!

John said:

@tabetha:  I know (thru a friend closer to him) that Layne did try several times and was successful in getting clean for short periods but he also helped others get clean while fighting his own battles.  He felt that standard recovery wasn't right and tried helping himself on his own and failed but it was a vicious circle.  He also felt that recovery was making him feel as though he had to say he was sorry to friends and especially family but it was those very deep down feelings he had, originally , that got him into the emotional roller coaster of trying drugs to begin with.  So there's a lot of underlying feelings going on here and having to say your sorry to the very feelings (and people) that hurt you and you had no reason to feel sorry for; was something he couldn't stomach.  But He also felt that no ones to blame except himself but he had deep extreme emotions of abandonment as a young boy that he never dealt with or I should say never new how to deal with.  Back in the 60's and 70's it was totally different then how it is now in dealing with these problems.   Then, it must of looked impossible for his family to help him in the way that they should have.  But in hind sight, today, someone should of just grabbed his ass and forced him out of his darkness.   Anyway, no one will ever really know not even his family.

Thanks for the more in-depth view of drug abuse 1 on 1? anywho, its been a long while since I've been in the "grunge scene" listening to tunes etc...I was doing my thing in the early 90's could not appreciate nor did I care for nirvana. Didn't appeal to me like AIC. What about Offspring, are they in that catogory? I always liked them better than Greenday! I don't know..maybe being a woman, ya know emotional, passionate so on...I guess I'm really not feeling this bands loyality much these days, it's sorta (like a marriage) thru good times, and shit times heever been just LEFT and FORGOTTON for about 2 Damn wks--I guess is all I'm trying to say....If I was strung "out of my gore." smelly, nasty piece of flesh it's an OBVIOUS cry out for help! I would hope that same fate wouldn't happen to me...from people you'd think other wise! I flubbed in my wording (whomever should get my point). And then I'll drop my obession with WHY??? on the death of Layne! R.I.P I'm done on that note! Thank-you for everyone giving me more insight on this amazing vocalist none other than Layne Staley!!!!

I have to agree with Alex on the subject of  Jerry posting here, or anywhere else. His music  is more than enough!  Ther isn't  a whole lot more that he could say anyway.  AiC's music  reaches into the dark  places in my soul, and helps me to heal. No one else's music does that. or  even comes close. Other bands do help me to vent maybe, but  doesn't heal the wounds.  It does that because it comes from the soul, and I'm grateful for that, and thank God that we have musicians of this caliber that are still around.

Here's me sitting listenin' to the radio, hear this song....I get a shock of extreme excitement, thinking this is The Re-born Alice! This is the new singer William DuVall! and this is the brand new beginning of  ALICE IN CHAINS!
radio announces that the song is actually by the band Another Animal - Broken Again....yet i was so entirely sure it'd be Alice...freaky, i even imagined Jerry behind those beautiful riffs throughout the song!
What a dissapointment, but nevertheless still looking foward to the real Alice, and I do believe  it better in a more exceptional way!! Of course.

P.s. Cantrell, Inez, Kinney and DuVall own no obligation to commune with posts, I'd say at this particular moment the demands would be on.  What exactly are the chances that  many other bands post comments in for their fans at all??! There was a reason to have the baldy and you're all damb lucky to even have him!
