^^^^They want to move on from Layne.  Isn't that obvious by now.  Funny thing is that most of the fans of the message boards mostly wonder and care about Layne.  They aren't really asking any questions about the rest of the guys.  Sure, we all want to know about the new music but no one else shines other than Layne.  And no worries; I've seen the Jerry lusting thread but that is only a handful of girls who are lusting after Jerry.  They may pretend it's all for fun; but they'd jump in the sack if given a chance.  Fans want more than just the music.  Most fans want some old footage just as much as they want some new music.  So how about it?  Afterall, it's money maken material...

Hey All!!  I have all the love and support for every single member of this band which is now 6 band members.  I appreciate them all and know they work hard to keep their fans happy.  BUT,..no one; and I repeat..no one will compare to Layne.  I know they are not replacing him but moving on because they have no choice since Layne's now gone..but again...no one; and I repeat, no one will come close to Layne's unique voice, his super hot looks, his hilarious personality.....and the biggest one of all:  his super, super charismatic "IT" that he had.  The guys should embrace this instead of run from it.  I really truely want the new music to be great..but..I have my doubts because Layne's voice was his instrument and with it now missing; I think the music my be good but just not that great....sorry!!!

Hey all!!!   The Cantrell/Staley magnetism has always been awesome.  but without one of the two to make that unique duo, it won't be anything close to the great original Mr. Layne Staley when the new shit comes out.  Come on Jerry dude, man, get your own career going.  You got the means and the talent.  Release it.  Be true to who you are.  Get those old songs going.  You and I know that Wil is not the fill to that unfillable hole.  Make it happen man.  You're great too.


ps.  this isn't a dog towards Jerry by no means.  But the dudes got to realize and always remember that he and Layne had a truely great, unique quality.  That's something he achieved that most can't and never will.   Their sound was effortless and pure energy that most musicians will never, ever match.

AIC must rock on.  I miss Layne too, but please just enjoy the music and stop the idol worship.  You think Layne wanted that?  If so, there's plenty of other forums for you to carry on your pointless protests.

Hey, by the way; meant no disrespect towards William either.  I was only pointing out the different sound that Staley and Cantrell had  that no one can compare.  Will is just an innocent bystander.  He's got a good voice too it's just his harmony doesn't mesh as well with Jer's & that includes Layne singing with someone else too, by the way.  Hey, maybe they won't do the harmonies this time around and maybe that would be best.

And to Matt:   it doesn't matter what Layne would of wanted (so to speak) cause I'm discussing the sound not their personal views on this subject.  And giving an opinion is not even close to idol worship.  All you guys who start whinning about idol worship have to get your emotions out of your butts because discussing an opinion on the sound of music has nothing to do with liking Layne personally!!!!!!

I agree that the Staley/Cantrell sound will never be matched or duplicated, but some kudos should be given to the guys for continuing on.  I fought with my decision to support the "new" AIC but all it took to make up my mind was to see the boys back onstage, where they belong.  Jerry and the remaining members of AIC have a gift that should be shared.  Whether Will is the right frontman for this new endeavor, my vote is still out.  As for keeping the name, I'm still a little leery about that decision as well, since AIC will never truely be AIC without Layne, but unfortunately that will never be a possibilty in this realm.  

Despite the loss and unfillable void of Layne I wish the guys all the best.  As you continue on, please don't forget about Layne and all the AIC fans who still love and respect him, and will always cherish his memory...for all the wondeful music he helped to create and share with the World, but more importantly, for the beautiful spirit that was, and still is, Layne.
Please give him his due and include a picture of Layne on the AIC homepage, where he belongs.

Every ALICE IN CHAINS fan misses Layne. I never got to see him,I love the rest of the guys too,I love watching Jerry play,any ALICE IN CHAINS is better than nothing.

I loved Layne & listen to aic on a daily basis, Layne & Jerry were definetely a dynamic duo. I cant comment on Wil, but kinda feel sorry for him as every die hard aic fan  is going to compare him to Layne. But what can the boys do? Layne isnt gonna come back to life & although I would love it if he did, its all about the music & i personally really, really miss this band & their unique sound. You gotta feel a little sorry for the rest of the band too cos if Layne had been well they could have been a lot more productive in the previous years. I say bring it on!! I am anxiously anticipating the new aic album. All the best to the guys & please tour in Australia!!

Hell Yeah!! I kinda feel sorry for them too but just slightly.  I know that Layne didn't want to be a "rock star" anymore.  But I also heard from the horses mouth on Rockline 1999, that he was ready to do so more.... It could take days or even years  to decide differently or change your opinion on what you want out of life.   Hell, I can only imagine how they could of sold out large crowds if the whole entire band were alive and kickin today.  Layne had  a beautiful voice and I only now appreciate it.  I don't understand why I didn't realize it sooner.....**sighes**  

I agree with one of the fans above about Layne being in one of the pictures on the main page.  It won't confuse anyone if you write in r.i.p. or put the dates in..... if that's what the management is concerned about.  He deserves to have a place on this official site.  Sure, he won't be part of the new music but all things considered; it would just be more appropriate for all the fans whether they agree with the new lineup of not....!!!!!!!

I think we should all just wait for the new music before making any assumptions that it is not going to "measure up" to the music already out there by the band. They are great people with great talent. Yes, Layne is dearly missed but the band is demonstrating that life goes on, even without a  key member.  I wish them nothing but the very best.

Bee, as far as the movie goes, I'd want to see a movie on Layne.  But show his hilarious side, show his amazing voice and other talents first and formost than of course they will have to show his addiction because how can you not?!

I am personally nerous, and anxious for new music.  Nervous for the guys and of course anxious myself.  

I think they have a lot on their shoulders to create  super terrific new material.  They have to be feeling the pressure.  Poor William. I'm sure he was feeling the pressure to perfom every single time he was up there on stage.  Had to belt it out perfectly or he'd be accused of sounding crappy.

NOW, all the guys have that same pressure to please new and old fans along with completely new ppl who don't have a clue who Alice in Chains are.  I hope they pull it off gracefully.

I think that whether AIC pulls off a stellar new album won't matter.  Most everyone's going to compare it to the AIC with Layne Staley.  ANd at present; I think that their past is going to bite them in the ass because the old AIC was unique, never duplicated, but only copied (tried anyway)....

......AND Most bands won't compare to the AIC no even their NEW SELVES......

Everyone fuckin loved Layne and how much brilliant and beautiful music he gave to his fans including me and i still love listening to his perfect voice,but before people start knockin the new aic lets just hear the new material first,if it's shit well then whatever,but Jerry has never made bad music and all the stuff he's done previously was fantastic,a little bit of trust in him,after all,he's never given us bad music.Duvall is no Layne Staley,but he might bring something new to the table which is special in its own way.lets jus wait and see.Oh and I agree with putting a picture up on the main page of Layne,he deserves respect.and also he deserves a fitting tribute in the music world as well,just because people expected his death does not mean that when he dies you shouldn't acknowledge it.and as much as i love nirvana and kurt cobain,april 5th should be just as many tributes to Layne as there is to Kurt.so make sure to say a prayer for Layne this April 5th.R.I.P Layne.

I enjoy Alice's music like all the other fans but I'm not a die hard person where I need to know every move these guys make.  In fact, I could care less.  If the new music is good; then all the more better for me.  If the new music sucks; then the new music sucks.  You can't say you'll like new music "just because"; meaning whatever someone puts out that you like; you're going to like too.  It doesn't work that way unless you worship the shit out of a person.  No ones going to create music that you're going to like every, single, solitary time.  It's not possible.  

Get a grip people.  Have your own mind.  Decide for yourself.  Just because you idol worship someone doesn't make it ok.  Crap will be crap.

as someone who keeps in touch with laynes family i do think that the band has the rite to go on and keep their music alive. Layne would have been fine with it he was a very generous soul and a gifted artist. We keep him alive by remembering his life not how he died and if the band has a right to move on. Jerry , Sean and Mike have to keep doing what the do best they have the talent and enough respect for Layne to know what they are doing. As for the shirts i buy the ones that benifit the tribute his mom is woking on for him.

Yo!!!!! I saw AIC in Jacksonville last year and Willie did a freakin great job!!!!!!!!!!!
I did mourn Layne, however he still lives with every song that I perform! Willie will do an excelent job of filling Laynes shoes and with Jerry's help that wont be a problem.

I don't think it matters what the heck Layne's Mom thinks about this whole thing.  I mean, come on dudes; your momma don't know sheetz about what you're doing and thinking.  And I'm not referring to drugs and women either.

Layne was a generous, fairly easy goin guy but that doesn't mean anyone INCLUDING HIS MOMMA would know what he wanted about the group.  Afterall, he basically quit the band in '94 after the crap broke loose.  You can be a super sweet dude and still not want something you've help create to move on without you.  Hell, maybe he would want the remaining members to give and seek out the respect the whole band deserved not to mention the orginally they created and many have copied.  Layne wanted to write his own book so noone can say he didn't want people to hear his life and words.  When you are an artist; you WANT people to hear you whether if you're private in quiet in your life or not because your word and life would be worthless if no one heard it!!!!!!!!!

I too, don't understand why the Milwaukee show isn't on the shirt.  It would have been nice to own one, because it was one of the most incredible shows I've ever seen.  Very disapointing...
