Greetings from London.
There was a flurry of activity in Aliceville last week as the band prepared to depart for Europe.
Just to make sure America doesn’t forget them while they’re gone, the band shot a video for Your Decision on Wednesday, filmed an acoustic performance for Yahoo Music on Thursday, and made an appearance on the Tonight Show With Conan O’Brien on Friday.

Video shoots can be tedious, monotonous, laborious, and sometimes disastrous, but the Your Decision video was a lot of fun actually.
I don’t think I’m allowed to give away too many details yet, but the band looked cool and the location was awesome, so hopefully the finished product will hold your attention for 4 1/2 minutes.

The Yahoo Music taping was three songs from the new album performed acoustically on a small soundstage in Santa Monica. There was no audience outside of the camera operators and the crew, so that was a bit weird, but the guys sounded great.
It’s scheduled to go up on the Yahoo site in November, so keep checking back here for details.

Finally, it was Friday and a trip to Universal studios for a taping of Conan.
The band had a morning soundcheck, which meant I had to deliver wake-up calls, which I look forward to like a trip to the proctologist.
It’s actually fairly predictable. William is usually already awake. Mike is usually awake and alert, although occasionally he throws out some choice words if he’s still groggy.
Nine times out of ten Sean is dead asleep but somehow manages to use the F word several times while suggesting I try something anatomically impossible.
And ten out of ten times Jerry hangs up on me.
It’s like starting your day off with a heaping bowl of scorn & disdain. Mmm mmm good!!
After soundchecking the song three times, everyone went back to the hotel to work on their hair for a few hours before we came back to the studio for the actual taping.
They played Check My Brain, and I can report firsthand that both Conan O’Brien & Andy Richter were literally tapping their feet for the entire performance. When the song ended the guys presented Conan with one of Jerry’s signature guitars, which he was surprised and happy to get.
With that, the work week was over and the band had one day (Halloween) to rest up before they jumped on a plane Sunday and flew to London.
The band is here doing a bunch of press and a taping of Later With Jools Holland, along with rehearsals for the tour, which kicks off on the 12th.

If I don’t overdose on Cottage Pie first, reports will be coming in from each stop on this tour, so stay tuned…
