It’s a bit weird to think that although the band has played roughly 30 shows in 2009, the official tour in support of the new album didn’t start until Glasgow.
The band spent a week in London doing some press, some rehearsing, and a TV show, and finally we hopped on a bus and headed north.

We had a day off in Glasgow before the first show and Jerry & I went out to grab some dinner, when suddenly a shop caught his attention and he got that old familiar gleam in his eye.
It took me second to put two & two together, and before I knew it I was being fitted for an authentic Scottish kilt.
As most of you well know by now, Halloween comes several times a year for Jerry, and he will jump at any chance to dress himself or one of his friends up.
So naturally he was right next to me getting fitted as well.

The next day I fulfilled my obligation and wore my gear all afternoon, and actually got used to it after a while. When you spend most of the day in a hot dressing room and then step outside to run an errand, a cool November breeze shooting up your kilt can be quite refreshing.
Jerry saved his for the encore, and the crowd went crazy when he walked onstage wearing it.
They’d been going pretty crazy up to that point anyway, singing and screaming and jumping and crowd surfing.

The set is similar to the one the band did in ’06 in that there’s a break in the middle where they bring out stools and do a few songs acoustically.
They’re playing a lot of new stuff too. Glasgow heard six songs off of the new album, and they’ve been rehearsing two other new ones which may get worked in to the set eventually.

So all in all it was a really good way to start things off.
An amazing band, a great crowd, and Cantrell in a kilt.
I’m not sure we’re gonna top that…

I’m very happy to say I was at this gig.

Seen AIC at Knebworth and was just blown away. So much so I had my tickets for this gig ordered as soon as they were available. There’s a whole load of crap on the net about how nobody can fill Lane’s shoes etc. We all know William is not Lane and isn’t trying to be. I thought he carried himself as the new ‘front man’ brilliantly though - big ups to DuVall, that’s a tough gig and he makes it look easy.

Great to have AIC back on the road and to see the guys clearly enjoying themselves up there too.

Big credit is also due to the crowd, I haven’t been in a better one, not even at Metallica (my fav band) gigs. The Barrowlands was just full of bouncing happy AIC fans and I sang myself out of a voice along with them. I’ve never shook so many hands or hugged so many merry strangers!

Amazing night, amazing band/performance/sound/crowd/vibe etc - all of it was just right on. An absolute classic gig.

Come back soon AIC! Scotland, among many other places, loves you!!!

PS - before somebody gives me a verbal pelting - yes.. I know I meant write ‘Layne’. I’m a guitar player, not a typist alright?!?
    Peace all.

Absolutely fantastic. The best gig ever. The acoustic set was amazing. The setlist was really varied, a mix of old and new. Jerry in a kilt was the icing on a fantastic cake. Come back soon AIC :)

BTW this show has inspired to get my 2nd AIC tattoo. Already have the sun on the back of my neck and have been considering lyrics for a while now. The music means so much to me. Thanks guys xx

Hey whats up baldy. Alice In Chains is most definately my favorite band in the industry from beginning to present. But i think that there should be a more conservative website for fellow musicians. Being a musician of 12 years ide rather not have to read nonsensicle blogs from people who have no idea where there going with there blog there just writing on a website to feel apart of something. I would like to be able to have a voice where jerry and the band could first hand be able to read and reply. I dont know… an opinionated response would be appreciated

I’m sure kilts are appropriate in Vegas too…just sayin’ in case you gentlemen want to show off your legs again…long sets are much appreciated there also.

    Hey,

Just wanted to say what an amazing show this was! The Barrowlands is my favorite venue in Scotland so when I found out Alice in Chains were playing there needless to say I was over the moon!

I’ve never been fortunate enough to get to an AIC gig before, and didn’t think I ever would get to, so it was a bit of a dream come true for me musically to actually see the guys in action! Needless to say I was not disappointed - I sang my heart out, didn’t want it to end! Loved the kilt Jerry!!!

Hope they come back soon, all the best for rest of tour!!! x

William, what a dude - what a voice. The acoustic set was beautiful, and I’m sure almost everyone was choked up by the end of Black Gives Way to Blue.
