Sean is sick.
One show under our belt and 19 to go, and we have our first casualty.
When someone gets sick out on the road, particularly a band member, your first thought obviously is that you hope they feel better.
You second thought, which comes a millisecond after the first, is “I hope that jackass doesn’t give me what he’s got.”
So while Sean is coughing, wheezing, hacking, and just generally looking like a medical cadaver, we’re all sympathizing and trying to help him out as best we can…from a great distance.
However, once you climb on the tour bus there’s only so far you can go.
That’s why touring during cold and flu season is like touring in a Petri dish. You can’t get away from each other. Therefore, everyone is on red alert, drinking healthy juices, eating soup, taking preventative medicines, poking pins in voodoo dolls, pretty much everything short of putting Sean in a protective bubble to keep his germs where they belong; on and in him.
Still, there was a rock show, and Sean propped himself up behind his kit and played like he was in tip-top shape. Unfortunately some of the gear wasn’t in tip-top shape, so our two most hated words came up again. Technical issues.
This time it was a faulty microphone, but things got sorted out eventually and the fans picked up right up where they left off, which was screaming their heads off.
So despite Sean being under the weather and one microphone being sent to the morgue, the show was another great one.
Now we’ll just pump Sean full of medicine and hope he doesn’t cough all over Manchester tomorrow…
“we’re all sympathizing and trying to help him out as best we can…from a great distance.”
haha. Awww, poor Sean. Hope the rest of you can stay healthy! Thanks for getting the blog updates up so fast Baldy and have to say your photos from Glasgow were your best work yet. Really amazing. Off to check out these B’ham ones now.
What a night, brilliant . Three foot from the front & got one of Jerrys picks. Look forward to seeing you again .
Cheers
Matt
Awww poor Sean i hope sean gets well quick and that the rest of the band & road crew stay nice & healthy love the photos
Would not have known sean was ill. Manchester was AWESOME. Any pics??
I’m only 16 but my grandpa actually introduced me to your band about a year ago. (God rest his soul) I was never really a rock fan, but after hearing Layne’s amazing voice, it seems that’s all I listen to!! I love ya’ll to death and wish ya’ll the best! I hope to see you in concert someday!! God bless.
Hey,it’s me again. I just want to say that recently I have herd people commenting on the fact that ya’ll need to change the name of the band. Frankly, I think they must not be true Alice in Chains fans. I’m so happy ya’ll are back together. I think I love your band a little to much I’m decorating my room with an Alice in Chains theme. Also I’m naming my son Layne and daughter Alisanne. (Its a mixture of your band and my favorite Elvis Costello song) Anyways I just hope ya’ll do not let people like that brind you down,so if your ever down just remember your true fans (like me) will always be here to support you and love what ya’ll do! R.I.P Layne. Good luck in all that ya’ll do!
OK, I upset my friend with my “I saw Nirvana at Reading” story but I really upset them when I say that NIrvana weren’t my favourite band when I was at school (in 1990 I was at 6th from!) and for years I’ve witnessed blank looks as I say, “it was actually Alice in Chains”
THe kids I teach had no idea who I am talking about but when I play the new album on spotify (usually during exercises in poetry!) they admit it rocks.
So, seeing Alice on Friday totally ruled! Thanks for a great gig and making a middle aged English teacher feel 17 again!
Going to see AIC in Wiesbaden, Germany this Saturday. Who´s supporting them on this European tour?
Another sad arse teacher here.
Trying to spread the word of AIC amongst the kids.
Was at birmingham guys and i’ll be seeing you again in Nottingham.
Later
