    Sean Kinney

i thought i should make a topic for a very under appreciated drummer.

Does anyone else think he is an incredible drummer? I mean he is not the best drummer to walk on this earth, definately not, but his overal style to his drumming is just amazing. personally i think he is the most unique drummer i have ever heard. there are alot of good, great, amazing drummers out there but it seems that alot of drummers, whether they are bad or amazing, all sound very similar. their just setting the tempo to the song. and alot of drummers in rock bands all do the same things also. but sean kinney is just completely unique. instead of doing crazy fast rolls around the whole kit he jsut selectively hits a few toms or one snare t get it done. like his drumming in angry chair, that alone just makes the drums feel like the major part of the song and not just a background. and of course same goes for no excuses. even his drumming in would is very unique. but i think his best drumming was in their third album. head creaps has an incredible beat to it that no ther drummer even would try. and the ending of shame in you has some simple yet sick drumming. like i said, by no means is he the best, and im sure there are plenty of drummers that can play his songs on the drums, but there is no other drummer that his style, which makes him my favorite drummer. i think he deserves a hell of a lot more attention as a drummer then many other drummers.

    Re: Sean Kinney

What I like about Sean is that he has a knack for making the equivalent of a song hook, only on drums. Songs like No Excuses and Angry Chair and Sickman have the coolest intros/sections and when you hear those first few hits, you know what song it is immediately. I love his little military stryle drumming in Rooster and just the unique touches he puts on songs.

    Re: Sean Kinney

    OMG! The song Sickman!

.....I just said somewhere ~ with all the crap being said about the singer situation, all the crap being said about Jerry, all the crap being said in general ~ COMPLETELY missing the most important part of all these shows: Sean getting back up on a stage again......That's the real special part about this reunion....

Getting to see Sean playing again....(no pun intended LOL)

He does deserve more respect (everywhere) for his drumming skills......It's nice to see him back again, best part of all of this......

    Re: Sean Kinney

I cant really make specific comments because I'm not a musician, but I can say I like what I hear... I simply love the drums intro in No Excuses, it's one of my favorite songs. Being able to see him playing live in this tour is a gift for me! It's just amazingly incredible to watch him hitting those drums! It gives me the chills!! Surprised

Yea me too, I wanted to see Sean and Mike. Hence why I just stayed on their side of the stage.

    Re: Sean Kinney

Sean is a very inovative drummer.  He adds so much to the song.

You'll notice he is credited with quite a bit of songwriting duties compared to your normal run of the mill drummer.  There is probably a reason to that.  Without Sean's style the songs would not nearly be as good as they are.

Sean is very over-looked as a anchor in the band.  Replacing him would be as hard as replacing Layne.

That's how you become great, man, hang your balls out there.

So Sean basically wins at life. Love him and love his style of playing - like many others said, "No Excuses" is excellent!!

    Re: Sean Kinney

.....Sean's sense of humor was really missed during the Deg Trip tour......it just wasn't the same without him around to tell everyone to pay attention to him (that's a joke, by the way)......

But seriously ~ the fact that he went out & played all these shows recently when he was sick, just goes to show ya how cool he really is.....

This is Sean's time to shine.....

    Paradise [ip] Re: Sean Kinney

    Sean is GOLDEN!!!

Without him the songs wouldn´t live and breathe like they do.

He adds a whole different world to the songs with his drumming.

And he is very beautiful as a person as well, so all the love and power to Mr. Sean Kinney!!

Drummers are often not seen as real musicians imo, but that couldn´t be further from the truth.. Sean has excellent skills and more importantly he is very creative with his drumming. A song is a (often, ..in a rock band) four way deal and when all come together all perfect (vocals, drums, guitar, bass) we get bands like Alice In Chains to bring music to a whole new level. So no underappreciation here.

    Sean Rules!!!!!!!
