Love STP!  For some reason, I always thought Scott would be more likely to "go" than Layne.  Maybe just because he was repeatedly in the news with his arrests, stints in rehab, etc.  Regardless, I'm glad he's on the straight & narrow now.  I only wish Layne could've made it too.

I worship the album "Core", especially "Wicked Garden" which is one of my favorite songs off all time, never seem to run in on any of their other stuff in the recordstores.

I absolutely love this band, my fav albums are core and purple. They had a very refreshing sound in the early 90's

Agreed, STP is awesome!  I saw them in concert in 96 in Dallas.  It was incredible.  One of my favorite songs is interstate love song.

STP is the best rock band of our generation--I agree with Vegas Crackerman.  They pulled off pretty much every mood and tone with their music(with the possible exception of moody...but Silvergun Superman could even qualify as that).  I thought they lightened up a little too much near the end, but it was still enjoyable, quality music...much better than 99% of what was being released at the time.

EXCELLENT BAND and in my top 10 of all time. I'm quite obsessed with "Big Empty" and all of Tiny Music... Songs From The Vatican Gift Shop if only for that gem of a song, "And So I Know."

Oh, much love for the STP.  Saw them twice - '96 Tiny Music tour and No. 4 tour, I think it was in '99 or '00 - they were fantastic both times.  "Lounge Fly" and "Sin" were incredible songs, like nothing else out there at the time.  Of course, it was the whole "Seattle Sound" era and critics bashed the shit out of STP, claiming they were "sound-alikes".  What Bullshit!!  STP didn't sound like anybody until they tried to on Tiny Music.  That album was openly paying homage to the roots of the band, showcasing their early influences.  "Big Bang Baby" is so obviously a Cheap Trick song, it could have been on one of their albums.   It was absolutely no coincidence that, when they went on tour for that album, the opening band was...Cheap Trick.  Being from San Diego, STP was very likely exposed to a lot of Cheap Trick, because they were very popular there and got a lot of airplay.  "Lady Picture Show" has the Beatles all over it.  Many other bands got into that sort of thing, also.  Metallica was incorporating all kinds of stuff from their early influences on "Load" & "Reload".  I take no issue with any band that draws upon it's influences to write and perform.  I think it's cool to pay tribute to those who led the way.   But I never felt that STP was trying to sound like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Mudhoney, AiC or any of the Seattle bands that made it big in the early '90s.  And yet, there was David Spade on SNL, ridiculing Weiland for being an "Eddie Vedder rip-off".  Nonsense.  I truly miss STP.  I can't feel that Velvet Revolver is anything but GnR with a decent singer/lyricwriter.  I'm interested in the DeLeo brothers' project - Army of Anyone is it?  Haven't heard anything of it other than an article on MTV.com from last winter.  Anyway, I am definitely with you on the STP tip.  One of greatest bands of the last 20 years.  Right up there with AiC in my book.

Vivdude - go to http://www.armyofanyone.com - there's 2 songs up there. One is called "Goodbye" and it's the first single and then there's another, just an instrumental. You can download them as well! Army Of Anyone are poised for success and I can't wait to see what else they're coming out with!
