    Singing w/AIC

I'm new here and I'm not sure of the forum rules on this (though I did overlook the entire rules section) but I was wondering how (if at all) would it be possible to have/schedule an audition. I've been singing since I had a voice of my own and I can not compare my vocal range and personal sound with anyone but Layne, I'm sure there are 1000 people out there that feel the same way but I truly think that I could do justice to the music. I have played bass for 8 years and guitar for 6 months, I am very musically oriented.

Thanks for any help, and if you can point me in any valid direction that would be great as well.

Their not looking for a lead singer. They have one. Look him up, William Duvall. I don't think they're looking for an amateur either or else i'm sure they wouldnt have turned down Rockstar: Alice in Chains.

That's the thing, I know who DuVall is and I don't really think his voice is on par with Layne's. Every time I heard him he sounded forced and it does not appear to be his natural singing voice.

I don't know, it's always worth a shot, I wouldn't have achieved half the things I have in life if I listened to everyone telling me I couldn't do it.

Sorry, hagman.... but the guys have clearly made their choice and are in no way interested in looking for a new singer.   In fact, they're in the studio now working on a new record.

I'm sure you're a great singer, but it is, after all, their choice..... and they have chosen Will.

    Welcome to the board, though!

Thanks much, never heard anything about the finality of it. I just can't believe that one of my favorite bands ever is going to be in the studio with a guy that's not on their past singer's level... I guess William could prove a lot of people wrong, I'm thinking so much about the who and not the what. Do you know if they are going to be releasing their material under a new name?

No, they've given every indication that they absolutely plan to continue as Alice in Chains.

i wasnt too sure about duvall at first either, hagman, but after i saw them live a few months ago he destroyed every bit of doubt i had. hes pretty good. i dont think they should keep the same name, but Duvall really is great.

    Re: Singing w/AIC

Will's voice is just as strong as Layne's. It is not identical, but it is great. William looked up to Cornell, and his vocal style really reflects it at times. Not to sound like I am knocking Layne, but his voice wasn't always perfect or strong, there are many bootlegs to support this. The choice is made, the album is in the works, multiple tours are in the bag. Alice in Chains is back, and Will is the new singer.
That's how you become great, man, hang your balls out there.
