I have to admit, I have never owned this album. I saw AIC with Layne twice, and attended the 7/3/96 show, which was their last with Layne. A Litlle Bitter, and Dam That River on this disc are from that show. I lived it man, I don't need to own the disc. Plus, I thought it was just a way for the record company to cash in on Alice's name because everyone KNEW they were not coming back while Layne was still alive. I truly believe that AIC would have NEVER got back together while Layne was still around, unless he found a way to get clean. He shut these guys out at the end. He did want to even speak to them, much less make more music!! Just my opinion, for what it's worth!!! (Probably not much) THE CRACKS AND LINES FROM WHERE YOU GAVE UP THEY MAKE AN EASY MAN TO READ FOR ALL THE TIMES YOU LET THEM BLEED YOU FOR LITTLE PEACE FROM GOD YOU PLEAD AND BEG FOR LITTLE PEACE FROM GOD YOU PLEAD

I listen to this album every day on the way home from work. It sounds ritualistic, and perhaps it is, but I just have to listen to it over and over again. In the car I can jack up the volume to a level my neighbors would never tolerate. A LITTLE BITTER is a masterpiece on this cd, as is every single track here. Sometimes it's the little things -- Layne's "yeaya" right before MAN IN THE BOX or the deliciously cathartic F*ck You! in QUEEN OF THE RODEO. It's not just that Layne rips tiles off the ceiling with that voice on this one: everyone in the band is in their glory on track after track. They were so tight, musically. When Layne goes slightly off key for "Have I gone, and left you here alone" in WOULD, I sigh at the beauty of AIC. The ONLY thing that drives me nuts in the middle of this cerebral infusion of reminders of why being alive is a good thing are those missed words on DIRT. I don't know when Layne started leaving them out -- but they freaking make the song, or let's say add a lot to it. "I want you to scrape me from the walls and go crazy ...." (omitted on later versions: LIKE YOU MADE ME!). -
-------------------------------------------- "I live for you, but I'm not alive."
