I just got back from Dallas - and you knew I'd fill you guys in first thing!! 

I don't even know where to begin.  This was hands down the best concert experience I've ever had.  The boys were absolutely flawless.  Perfect.  And yes, they blew VR out of the water, but I was expecting that.  I do have to say that I enjoyed VR much more than I expected to.  

The set list, not in order (except for the opener and the last two... that's all I remember of the order):

We got 12 beautiful, immaculate songs! 

Jerry had a couple of technical problems, but nothing major...  William was amazing, Sean threw horns at me in the pit ( yeah, baby!  \m/ ), and Mike was his usual animated self - man.... how can you not ADORE Mike Inez???  Jerry was perfect, that's all I can say..... I will never get enough of watching and hearing those crunchy riffs he plays.  My son said, "Mom -- he played every note flawlessly - every single note!"     (Trust me, he knows every note Jerry's played on every recording he can find... ha!)

The crowd sang loudly with every song.  It was amazing.  My son and nephew had the time of their lives and I couldn't have enjoyed it as much without them - seeing these teenagers in awe of these guys blew me away.   

Before the last song, Jerry introduced each band member (very cool!) then said, "Thanks everyone for coming out - we want to do something a little special tonight, please say hello to my pop out in the audience, Pop, stand up and wave."  The crowd went NUTS.  It was very cool.  Rooster was one of the highlights of the night, William really put emotion into it this time.  My favorite, as I said, was by far Rain When I Die.  Amazing.  My son got one of Jerry's picks and he wouldn't even put it in his pocket for fear of losing it.  He kept it clenched in his fist all the way to the car.    He's been playing AIC songs in his room since we got back on his guitar and stuck his head out the door one time and said, "Hey Mom - how do I sound with this sweet Jerry pick?!!??"  (he was kidding, of course, but making his point that he's ecstatic to have gotten it......)   

I was not expecting to stick around for the entire VR show, but my son and nephew wanted to see Slash and I wanted to see him along with Duff and Scott, too..... just to see them live..... not really into VR's music, but they are good showmen.  As many others have said before me, I actually felt bad for them to have to follow AIC.  The crowd poured out after Alice left the stage....but I have to say, they surprised me.  Slash is just fun to watch, the way he bounces around on stage.  Weiland is one strange bird, but fun to watch and he really did the GNR songs justice; I was especially impressed by Patience.  But my favorite VR bandmember was Duff.  He was great, really connected with the audience; he made eye contact, nodded and smiled at people, really a personal connection, and he would lean his bass over for a front row person to take a pick... he was very cool.  Like I said, I felt bad that they had to follow AIC.  It really should have been the other way around.....  When the lights came back on onstage for their encore, Tommy Lee was drumming with VR's drummer (what's his name? can't remember).  It was cool..... he played through about half of a song then threw his sticks in the audience and left the stage. 

I will never tire of seeing Alice in Chains.  I am so jealous of those of you who see them multiple times!  But, I'm happy for you lucky devils!    It is a shame that we only got an hour - but I'd drive the 6 hours over and over and over to see them for that hour.  It was so worth that and more.

Wish I could tell you more but I've written a novel already! 

By far the best concert I've ever been to.  I love these boys - every single one of them has a place in my heart.  <3

And lastly, let me say for the record - ROCK ON, William Duvall!!!!!!!!  He is a star among stars in this legendary band.

First off, I never got to see Alice the first time around.  I'm old enough, but somehow just never got to do it.  I did see Cantrell a few years back when he was opening for Metallica.  That was an amazing show.

AIC exceeded my expectations.  William's voice is fantastic.  I admit I was a little worried at first, but on songs like Rain When I Die and Down In A Hole he really showed his stuff.  He still needs a little work in the frontman department.  He kind of looked a little lost or out of place at times, but he did seem to be enjoying himself.  Those are some pretty big shoes to fill.

 I have seen Velvet Revolver before, and once again I thought they were great.  I am not a huge fan, but they are one of the few remaining bands (along with the Foo Fighters) that know how to play real rock and roll.  I saw Weiland many years ago with STP.  He is one of the better frontmen out there.  Yes, he's strange, but it's all very entertaining and his vocals were spot on--even on the G'n'R songs.  Last but not least, I caught Tommy Lee's drumstick.  Now I have a great souvenir from a great show.

OK, I promised you guys the rest of my story so here goes.....

My son, my nephew and I got to the venue a couple of hours before the show was to start, to hopefully be able to get the spot we wanted in the pit.  We met some cool people outside; one couple from England who said this was their 3rd show on this tour to see Alice and they were headed to Houston the following night, too.  How cool is that - they came to the U.S. and followed AIC around for a while.    When the gates opened, we made our way to the pit and set up camp in front of Jerry's mike.  Met some other cool fans there, too.  I'm short, so I had to be next to the rail because I wouldn't be able to see over anyone otherwise.  I had the best spot in the joint! 

Sparta was pretty good, but we couldn't wait for the boys to come on stage.  We saw Baldy running around onstage getting set up for the show and I loved it when at one point people in the crowd started chanting his name - "Bal-dy! Bal-dy! Bal-dy!" he acknowledged it, nodded and smiled; it was a cool moment.  Later when we met up with him, I commented that he has his own fan club - and he actually blushed!    Boy, did AIC light up the place when they arrived.  The place went nuts and stayed that way throughout the entire show.  Like I said before, the crowd sang along to every song; it was great.  These guys rocked the house as usual.  See my previous post for my review of the show itself.......

After they left the stage, we met up with Baldy who led us around to the backstage area.  The guys were in the buses chilling out for a while after their kickass show, so we stayed for a minute but decided to go out and watch a little of the VR show while they rested.  After a few songs, we met back up with Baldy and went backstage again, this time over by the buses.  We stood and talked to Baldy and Big Val (very sweet guy) for a couple of minutes, then William came out to visit with us and let me tell you, he was very, very cool.  He thanked me for volunteering on the message board, which I thought was really nice.  He talked guitars and equipment with my son Matt for quite a while (which he's still talking about!).  He's such a great guy, really down to earth and cool to talk to.  I told him that once again, my favorite was Rain When I Die, that he just sounds phenominal on that song and he actually was shy about it and said he appreciated it a lot.  Then Jerry came out of his bus and over to talk to us.  My son teases me still saying, "Mom, you were talking to everyone, then Jerry walked up and you just got quiet!" HAHA!  I didn't think I was quiet, but........   I mean, come on....  F'ing JERRY CANTRELL was standing next to me!!!!!!!  (Yes, girls, he is WAY hotter in person.......)  Jerry was coughing and said he's been sick for a week or so -  I told him we sure couldn't tell it while he was onstage!  He laughed, said thanks and that he really can't call in sick with his job.  It was very cool of him to come out and talk to us for a while because 1) he was sick and 2) some of his family were there... Let me tell you, if you haven't met Jerry, he is one major cool cat.    While talking to Jerry, I heard a commotion to my right and turned to see Mike bouncing up to us.  He gave me a hug and kissed me on the cheek and said, "PunkyLunky, right??"  It was very cool.  He was so great, talking to us for the longest time.  I think he hugged me and kissed me on the cheek at least a half dozen times - he is a DOLL!  I'm looooooooving me some Mike Inez.  Unfortunately, we didn't get to meet Sean, because he had gone out into the audience to watch the VR show.  I told Mike that I'd read on the message boards where Sean had done that a couple of times and Mike said, "Are you kidding?  He watches every single one of their shows!  ......I think he's got a crush on Duff."    We cracked up.  Mike is hilarious.  He asked if I was going to be able to catch any of the acoustic shows, and I told him I was working on getting to see one of them, but I am not sure if I can work it out... he told me I should because, "we're really having a blast with the acoustic shows, too!" 

We stayed back there and talked to all of them for about 45 minutes or so - yes, you heard me right!!!!  Then Jerry said he needed to go visit his family for a while, so I asked if we could get a picture.  They said ok, so I pulled my cell phone out of my pocket.  Jerry looked at me and said, "Is that all you have is your cell phone???????????"  I told him that Matt (my son) had brought his camera but security had made him put it back in the car.  Jerry said, "F*ckers!"     then asked Baldy if he'd take some and email them to me.  Baldy went to get his camera and proceeded to take 3-4 pics of us.  Can't wait to see them - don't know when he'll be able to send them to me, but I'll share when I get them (assuming they're ok pics!).  Mike and Jerry thanked me for my work on the message board (like it's WORK or something! ), then Jerry and Will left for their bus....

Mike actually stayed for a while longer and talked to us after the other guys got back on their bus, which was super cool.  My son and nephew got his, Big Val's and Baldy's autographs - yes, we have Baldy's autograph!   

It was the funnest concert experience I've ever had - without a doubt.  I have to say -- Baldy, you ROCK!!!!!  I can't thank you enough.  And I can't say enough good things about William, you guys. He really is a GREAT guy.  I'm glad he's fronting this legendary band.  If he has Jerry's, Sean's and Mike's approval and support, he's certainly got mine.  And I can see why.  The chemistry and friendship these guys have with each other is great to see, especially off stage.  I can't wait to hear the new material!!

PL, you must be one of the luckiest persons in Dallas right now!!  I don't know how you do it!!  You got the meet all of those people, I have VIP things that still couldn't get anywhere except outside!!  And catch glimpses of the stars running around, Although........huh, I guess I really don't have the 'flare' for that, I am pretty quite and always scared of saying the wrong thing, I guess that is why I am always on the back row!  Gosh, I guess I need to get a job at a radio station or something, so I can meet some people, I love music and I really think that kind of a job....like running stage crews would be a perfect occupation.....***I just remembered***that is just a dream....

PL- that's great!!  I'm so happy that you had such a great time!!  You definitely put a smile on my face!!

Hip ROCKS!

OK, so all I had was my cell phone, and I was afraid my battery would die before I got to go backstage and take pics with the guys (not knowing that Baldy would take them for me! ) so I only took 2 during the show.......   After Baldy took pics backstage for me, I used up my battery on VR, so I have more photos of them.... Had I known I didn't have to worry about my battery, I would have taken AIC photos til it died, but... hindsight, right?  Anyway, sorry to disappoint on only having 2 of AIC and many more of VR.... I thought I'd share what I had, anyway...  Oh, and the last photo is of Tommy Lee leaving the drums to go off stage, it's hard to see...

Just what she said I had the best time ever . I met Sean coming out of the bus on my way to the VIP Lounge got his autograph, got a pick from jerry when they were done playing. Thought VR sucked .

And i would drive the 200 miles to catch Amtrak again to see these guys anywhere they rule
