iamgolden:Rifi, do you write professionally for a publication? You have an excellent way with words. I find your posts very interesting. Thank you for locking the new aic-no way thread, awesome mod! Edit: oops I guess I'm not supposed to mention that according to the rules, but anyways...

Re: The Rifugium Chronicles: a thread for open-minded music listeners.
Concert #180 I went to the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville tonight (aka last night) to see my boys Umphrey's McGee for the...let's see...I think that was show 16 for them. There was an opening band, Rue Melo (the girl's name), so we went a little bit early just to see a little bit of her/their set. We really just wanted to see her, because she's a hottie. They were ok. Nothing I'd listen to normally: kind of rock/reggae-based R&B. Show #16 for Umphrey's wasn't the best I've seen from them, but as usual, it was a good show with superb shreds and solid jams tighter than a virgin's honeypot. It'll be worth getting the live album. We got a couple good covers that I've heard but never seen them do until now. Again, as usual, it was about a three-hour show with two sets and an encore. Setlist:
1. Slacker 2. Bottom Half> Glory> Bottom Half 3. Red (KC cover) 4. Morning Song 5. Nothing Too Fancy ~~~intermission~~~ 6. Sociable Jimmy > DBK 7. The Floor 8. Dump City > It's About That Time > Dump City ***encore*** 9. Dear Prudence (Beatles cover)
So yeah, good set, not the best I've seen. Fun show as always. Women, wine and song. Giddyup.

Re: The Rifugium Chronicles: a thread for open-minded music listeners.
Another WMMR survey. Another night of me wanting to commit murder. Many of the songs were the same as last time of course (see page 2), and my opinions haven't changed much. I still don't recognize many of them since most are horrible and/or all sound the same.
Remember, the "I hate it / I like it" section is my vote in the survey. The comment I make following that is BEFORE the band and song name is revealed. "Post-comments" are anything I add after I see what band it is.
1. White Stripes - Icky Thump I hate it. Most annoying shit ever. Urge to kill...rising. 2. Linkin Park - Bleed it Out I hate it. Kill me with crappy music. 3. Disturbed - Land of Confusion I hate it. Same as above. 4. Breaking Benjamin - Breathe. I hate it. Same as above. Stop trying. 5. Sixx AM - Life Is Beautiful. I hate it. Same as above. All the same. Stop. Just stop. Die. Go to hell and die. Burn forever to atone for this shit. 6. Three Days Grace - Riot. I hate it. Same as above. "Let's start a riot..." Yeah, you're a bad ass. Let's not and say we did. Let's learn more than three chords. 7. Foo Fighters - The Pretender. I like it. Foos. Rules. Still wouldn't want to hear it 200 times a day though. 8. Three Days Grace - Animal I Have Become. I hate it. Shit. See also #1-6. Post-comments: Oh yeah, Three Days Grace. The band that deserves 3 slots on this survey. I guess there will be one more to come here. Can't wait. 9. Seether - Rise Above This. I hate it. Same as above. All this shit is the same.... 10. 30 Seconds to Mars - The Kill. I hate it. Same as above. Same as above. Same as above. Etc. 11. Apocalyptica - I'm Not Jesus. I hate it. Same... Except slightly worse vocals, if that were possible. Post-comments: Wait... This is Apocalyptica??? What the hell happened? Not that I'm a big fan to begin with, but what is this crap? Didn't they used to do like semi-cool instrumental cello music? Guess that wasn't a money maker. 12. Chris Cornell - You Know My Name. I like it. An ok song from a less-than-ok album. Don't want to hear it more than a couple times a year though. The song that is. 13. Breaking Benjamin - The Diary of Jane. I hate it. Kill yourself with death and die and leave all your money for me in your will. Post-comments: Great, let's give these morons more slots on the survey now. 14. Puddle of Shitt - Psycho. I hate it. Oh no... I hope this isn't who I think it is. I had hoped these losers were dead already, but I guess not. Annoying. Repetitive. Idiotic. See also #1-6, 9-11, 13. Post-comments: Yep, it was who I though it was. Want...to...killllllll....... 15. Incubus - Dig. I like it. But it still gets radio time? Isn't this album like 2 or 3 years old now? 16. Atreyu - Falling down. I hate it. What the FUCK is this? Other than retarded. 17. Tool - The Pot. I hate it. Again: worst Tool song ever. Why is this still on this panel? 18. Theory of a Dead Man - So Happy. I hate it. Same as... Kill, die, etc., etc. 19. Godsmack - Speak. I hate it. Sounds like Fraudsmack. Let's play a little game called 'drink the stuff under the sink.' 20. Ashes Divide - The Stone. It's ok. I'm strangely drawn to it, but it seems like it would get old quickly. Post-comments: Yeah, I liked this in the other survey too. Will still probably check this band out when the album is released. 21. Finger Eleven - Paralyzer. I hate it. Kill this song and everyone involved in its creation. 22. REM - Supernatural Superserious. I hate it. Oh...my...God...what is this shit? Post-comments: THIS is REM??? This is my first time hearing any new material from them. I mean they were always a horrible band, but...what is this???? Hang it the hell up already. Post-post-comments: Oops. Looks like this was the actually the second time I've heard this, since it was in the other survey too. Still complete garbage. 23. Linkin Krap - What I've Done. I hate it. Same die crap etc. 24. Tool - Vicarious. It's ok. But give it a rest already. That album wasn't that good, and they play the two worst songs from it. 25. 3 Doors Down - It's Not My Time. I hate it. Sorry, I wasn't paying much attention. 26. Seether - Fake It. I hate it. KILL YOURSELF. YOU ARE TERRIBLE AND DESERVE TO DIE. Please. kthxby. Post-comments: You mascara wearing fruitcake. 27. Airbourne - Too Much Too Young Too Fast. I hate it. Good God.... Post-comments: Never heard of this. Hopefully I never do again. WE DO NOT NEED MORE CRAPPY BANDS LIKE THIS. Oh Australian, huh? Ok. Tour with Wolfmother and crash your plane. Thanks. 28. Three Days Grace - Never Too Late. I hate it. Same... Post-comments: Uh huh. There's number 3. 29. Papa Roach - Forever. I hate it. Didn't I JUST hear this same damn song. Answer: yes, several times. 30. Foo Fighters - Long Road to Ruin. I like it. More Foos. Is this the only thing good in the mainstream world right now? No, but just about. 31. Stone Sour - Through Glass. I don't like it. This sounds familiar... Duncan Sheik ripoff? And either way you go about it, that's not a good thing. Post-comments: Oh yeah. Stone Sour. Ok. Next. Let me be perfectly clear about this. Attention, Nikki Sixx and everyone who has ever been in Motley Crue. You are the worst group of fuckers imaginable, and you are completely incapable of making any kind of good music. Drugs will never kill you, so please try guns, sharp objects, blunt objects, or possibly throwing yourself under rampaging herds of large herbivorous mammals. There is a sci-fi series called "The Wheel of Time" by Robert Jordan. In it, he describes a magical element called balefire, which I'll explain briefly from my recollection. Balefire is so powerful when used, that it not only kills a person, but it also erases them from time, so that anything they've done in the past--depending on the intensity of the blast--becomes undone. Essentially it kills you BEFORE you die. My point is: this is what we need to kill you with. Full force, eradicating you and everything you have done from existence. You are just that terrible. Please die soon, you no-talent, disease-ridden, wastes of human life. Warmest regards, Me. PS - Excluding Randy Castillo, RIP.

Re: The Rifugium Chronicles: a thread for open-minded music listeners.
i agree with 95% of that post. call me crazy but i like icky thump. the foos are fuckin great. all of those bands that said suck, do suck bad. i loathe them all. i do like the pot but i see where you are comin from. vicarious is good but played out...and i personally think 10,000 days is not just good but fucking awesome. i'm tired of it though. btw altough incubus is on a delcine they are still one of the few mainstream bands i like. the last album wasn't that great but it was solid. i liked about half of it.

Re: The Rifugium Chronicles: a thread for open-minded music listeners.
I haven't listened to 10000 Days since the week it was released. Also, even though I don't listen to it that much, I do like Incubus' last album. The one before it was terrible though.

Incubus has the potential to give us another good one or two. I miss the Viking Shrimp.

iamgolden:LOL Rifi, I could see the vein pulsing in your forehead as you were pounding this review out. I don't listen to regular radio for this reason, XM rules.
ha!!!! Isn't he the funniest?????? You could do a tv show...... you'd be like the Soup Nazi - "No, no, NO!!!!! No radio for YOU!"

Re: The Rifugium Chronicles: a thread for open-minded music listeners.
Hijack
Review
Scott
Reeder TunnelVision
Brilliance Liquor
& Poker Music - 2006
Platitudes
such as; “Too many cooks spoil the soup” and “Anything worth having, is worth
waiting for” find new meaning after a good listen to this disc.
If one was already
familiar with Scott Reeder as an
intrinsic part of the Stonerrock scene, handling bass duties for both Kyuss and Unida, this record could well be anything but what you’d expect from
this underground legend. Indeed, it might be best to let go of the hardrockin’
left-handed bass-player and embrace him simply as Scott Reeder, the man who
pours his entire being into a disc, 120 mm in diameter.
In a period
of 18 years time (1987 – 2005), Reeder penned down these 13 songs into one
cohesive work of art, every song another jigsaw that fits perfectly. Untouched
by the outside world, TunnelVision
Brilliance is a 100% solo effort wherein Reeder plays (bass)guitar, drums
and synthesizer, flawlessly. Classifying
this album would be a fool’s errand, since songs like “Diamond” and “Queen of
Greed” feature a guitar and bass riff respectively, reminiscent of Tool, while the former and “The Fourth” have
aggressive slants, Reeder’s mellow ‘Floyd-ish’
voice never make it feel forced. “The Silver Tree” is as close as one can get
to Alice In Chains’ “Rotten
Apple” and “Nutshell”, while “Thanks” and the instrumental “Away” have a Depeche Mode feel.
As I said; classifying this album would be a fool’s
errand since I can barely place the songs individually, but that’s beside the
point, the only way to look at this record is as a personal reflection of the
artist. This is as pure, honest and heartfelt as it gets, one man writing off
all his life experiences and thoughts into a record showing incredible depth. Hijack/
