Gryphon911: Sounds like
there's trouble in paradise. They've been touring for several
years now..they should know whether or not the chemistry is there with
DuVall. The fact that it's not coming together very quickly tells
me it's not going well. Yep, the new album is going to suck.
Leave it to you to make a negative out of a positive.....to take a logical thing & twist it into something bad....
People would be bitching if William came in &
just took over, too......not only are the 3 remaining guys getting back
into the swing of writing Alice style again, after all these years,
they have a "new" guy there who does his thing differently than Layne's
work ethics were..... If ya want it to suck so bad, then don't
buy it....if you think trashing it before you even hear it is gonna
"scare" people away from buying it ~ that won't work either.....alot of
people are more open minded than you are...........

Gryphon911: cantrell11: but told The Pulse of Radio they're not rushing to start recording. "We've been working about the last four months, and there's a good bulk of music and a good body of work so far, and we're having fun, and you know, we're taking our time and trying to figure out where William fits in and where we need to step up, and I have all the confidence in the world in the guys," he said. "The most important thing to me is that we're all together and, you know, it's been a tough and painful experience at times, but it's been very rewarding at the same time."

I can't believe I just read that! Was that a joke, or were you just trying to get a reaction?1st of all, there is a world of difference between touring on an already existing body of work and writing and recording all new tunes, esp. w/ a new member. 2nd of all, Alice have never been known to run marathons in the studio anyway. Last I heard, they're tracking demos now. It shouldn't be too long before they start laying down master tracks. You can't rush perfection! By all accounts, they're dealing w/ alot of emotion at the moment so let them move at their own pace so the songs can evolve naturally. The new material will be better that way. It's pretty vain for us to think that they should hurry on our account ( I'm eagerly awaiting the new release just as much as the next fan, though.) SO WHAT'S TAKING SO FUCKIN' LONG?????

I wish I could be half as stubborn as you, man. It takes some real lack of guts to fight on the internet and expect to eventually accomplish something. That's some serious perserverance. I mean, everyone's pretty much said, several times, that everyone has their opinions, and there's no point trying to change them. But that never stopped you. No. So, even though people keep telling me I can't injure people with my mind, I'm going to keep trying every time I see your username, and maybe one day, it'll work. I really hope so.

KyleW:this dude’s a troll. that’s all that’s really
going down here. how sad to have the time in life to waste flaming on a
message board. ignore this a-hole. you can't reason with him. he's here only to get a rise out of everyone.
You are completely correct And
I try to ignore it, which is the best way to deal with trolls.....but
then I remember the words in my ("About") profile & lose control

Naitch--you never fully lose control, which is why you are the pro at dealing with ugliness on here. I think we should start a Naitch chocolate account. I have some already set aside for you. Pgh--my tongue is used to it. To quote my man Brandon Boyd--"Blood in the mouth beats blood on the ground."

Thanks. It's not really that unusual. though. It's just called *having an opinion*. Lots of people have them....not so much on this forum, but elsewhere in the world.

There's nothing wrong with having a pessimistic attitude towards the new album. Still, negative opinions, like all opinions, should at least be based on reality if they are to be considered valid. The fact that they're taking their time with recording/releasing the album is an indication of many things, but mainly that they're thinking of the fans above all else. This album is obviously going to be a huge transition from the albums of the past, and you can't rush something like that. Of course we fans want to hear new stuff as soon as possible, salivating dogs that we are. But personally, I'd rather wait another year or so for them to fine-tune everything to exactly the way they want, than have them rush into things and release a sub-par album. (And let's not forget that you can't concentrate fully on the recording process if you're out touring regularly, which they've been doing for a while now.) Sometimes a brilliant album can be made in a week (Alice In Chains - Jar of Flies), sometimes it can take five years to put everything together in just the right way (Tool - Lateralus). With something major like the loss of a key band member, it's only natural that any further productions are going to take some time, especially that first ice-breaker. Ultimately, it's AIC, so one way or another, it's going to rule.

Well said, Rif. Maybe you're not so bad, after all. My views on the direction of the band are based on reality, as I see it. The only Alice any of us know, in terms of creative output, is the one with Layne. That's the only tangible reality we have until this new album comes out. The Alice w/ DuVall is an unknown, unproven quantity. We have no idea whatsoever that these guys can even write together. The whole thing could very well fall apart in the studio. So, as if you couldn't guess, I'm extremely pessimistic about any future album that bears the name "ALICE IN CHAINS". The chance of duplicating the greatness of the Alice we all know and love is slim to none.

.......Sean has always been Jerry's best writing partner, the "kick in
the pants/great ears for what is cool" kind.....Inez has proven that
whereever he lands, he can get along with his co-bandmembers (from
mellow to outrageous) & has some ideas that add new dimensions to
their greatness (Ozzy)......Jerry & William have already written a
couple of songs together, destined (at the time) to go to any future
Cantrell solo albums someday.....since Jerry & William can
arrange/or play bass guitars, it should be a piece of cake to
understand the Inez suggestions....and all 4 have been making music for
decades, all four are use to dealing with egos & eccentricities
& different writing styles......the most time consuming part is
going to be in the weeding out of the ideas that just aren't
appropriate.... Like Jerry said, they contributed greatly to past AIC music & still have alot more to offer .....
