Re: Jerry Cantrell's Closet Auction for Charity

Oh my. I am starting to get worried. i can't believe we still have five more days of this. Oh God i want so bad to get at least something. Well i wish everyone else luck though. I hope they make a ton of money. which what i've seen so far they are already doing.

The brown leather pants are already way out of my league money wise.  OH GOD I WISH HE"D PUT THESE UP!   like when the bidding is all over. one last item for me. Please dont' get me wrong I think what jerry's doing is awesome and what he put up there is totally awesome too. But God I would absolutely die.... this would be a huge money maker item. not that the rest aren't i alreay know that. but come on his freakin speedo's ah yeah.  and the shipping wouldn't be as much as leather pants cause these would be lighter.

Maybe he could put this last item up at the end of the bidding for me. and for all us ladies at the For The Ladies thread. ok if he doesn't have them anymore even a pair of boxers will do. ones that hes worn of course though i know he never does. LOL> but,  I know. i know.  give an inch and they want a yard. Oh god there i go again with my Fraudian slips...Love you Jerry..please consider..Wink

Re: Jerry Cantrell's Closet Auction for Charity

    Sooz:

I just stopped by to Thank Gwen for the shipping info and to wish everyone well with the bidding.

A warning to non US and Canada bidders.  I just checked out how much the shipping plus customs duty plus VAT that the UK are going to charge me and it came to £8 postage plus 12% excise duty plus another 17.5% VAT so having to add 30% of the winning bid to give to the UK government puts the items well out of reach for me.

     I'm so depressed.

Seriously Sooz?  BUMMER!!  I've bought tons of stuff of e-bay from the US and never had to pay VAT on it before. I have had to pay duty on stuff over £100 tho.  And really VAT shouldn't be applied as the item(s) were not bought here?  Mind you these are just theories I don't know for sure... Meh!

Gwen, when shipping the items internationally can I make a suggestion that whoever fills in the customs label doesn't put the actual price paid (esp for the leather stuff)?  It usually asks for the value and that can be interpretted in many ways dependant on the valuer.  Not that I'm asking you to break the law, just trying to save any winning Brits a few quid (which will go to our tax screwing govt and NOT to the charities Wink) you understand I'm sure

Re: Jerry Cantrell's Closet Auction for Charity

Shipping will be decided between the Seller (AliceInChains.com) and the Buyer (highest bidder). I am willing to put something on the package like "promotional" to make it easier with the rates, though this will have to be discussed to make sure there won't be any problems.

Some people may want insurance on these items, and I don't blame them, so with that, the real information will probably need to be documented.

We don't want anyone to have to pay exorbitant shipping fees or customs charges, we'll try to find the best rate! Yes

...You my friend, I will defend.

And if we change, well I love you anyway.

Re: Jerry Cantrell's Closet Auction for Charity

I ordered an expensive item for my husband a few years ago and the company agreed to mark it gift so that I would not have to pay the tax- Could that be a possible option?

Re: Jerry Cantrell's Closet Auction for Charity

That is a possible option - we'll do right by the buyers and be sure to communicate all aspects of shipping so that we are all prepared!

Re: Jerry Cantrell's Closet Auction for Charity

I did some homework and from 19 July 2007 the following apply for the UK for goods bought on the internet:

  • Customs duty - if the amount of duty is £7 and over. (which it will be)
  • Import VAT - if the value of the goods is £18 and over (which it will be)
  • Excise duty of 12% on clothing (no further information on secondhand clothing tho...)
  • Stone the crows!!!!  That's outgrageous.  I do buy an awful lot of stuff and have only been stung once (to the tune of £35 for a £50 product!!!) and it does all come down to what is on the Customs form.  I've noted that most of mine usually say promotional item or gift.  But that's just an observation I hope you understand Wink

Yeh that's the info I got plus my hubby bought a watch recently from the US and that cost him 30% more in taxes.  Plus I used to work at the Post Office and had people sceaming at me about the amount they were being asked to pay for something before we were allowed to hand it over and this applied to items marked as gifts too.  Just because something says it's a gift doesn't mean the Govt wont want their cut.  It is obscene, I just wanted fellow boarders to be aware, although if you are lucky you might just get away with it.

I've had fan club stuff sent to me but marked with a value of £18 or less = $36 USD and that got through without a problem.

Yes, but AiC.com is located in Canada, so wouldn't it be based on shipment from Canada and not the US? Or, is it US because of the auction through eBay that's in the US?
