    full contact

Hey ya guys. I come from kickboxing and decided to make a post where we can talk about everything related with full-contact MA - boxing, kickboxing, kiokushin, muai-thai, freefight etc.

Unfortunately i have a tiiiiny problem and some expertise would be great. I had my jaw broken recently. Doc said full recovery is 6 month to a year. How long do you think it's wise to wait until i can do sparring again? And what about competiting? If anyone round here has lived through such sh*t, some advice/reassurance would be  great. Mr Green

Also, if there are any AIC fans from BG, /*shte se radvam da se zapoznaem*/

    Re: full contact

Oh man, that sucks about getting your jaw broken. I hope you heal quickly with no problems! I'm also a kickboxer, but I've never had a major injury like that. The only thing I have is recurring shin problems so jumping rope is a bitch!!! Don't know what to tell you about the healing time. Just listen to your doctor and talk openly about exactly what you want to do and when... get his or her honest opinion and be aware of the risks. One reason my shin is so messed up is because we don't have a real ring at the gym I train at most of the time, so we just spar or the hard floor. I was too embarassed to tell my doctor that I was bouncing around, round after round, barefoot on a concrete floor (with carpet). Of course I stayed off it when I first injured it, but I came back too quickly and always did too much because my trainer wouldn't listen to me and I didn't want to listen to my doctor either. I wasn't really honest in telling the doctor about what I was doing, so he wondered why my injury wasn't healing. My advice is just tell the doc the truth and know what the risks are before you even go to the gym and get talked into sparring "just a couple rounds", you know? Best of luck man!

    Re: full contact

Something like 2 or 3 years now... I've fought before and I should have another fight coming up soon. It's hard to get fights though, because there are like half as many girls than guys who fight. It's only once in a while you get a really good fight lined up and it doesn't fall through. And the weights are totally not real... people will drop 15lbs or put 20lbs of weights in their pockets just to make weight because fights only come along so often :-)

How long have you been kickboxing?

    Re: full contact

yeah i really know what you mean. and since there is no doping control in BG (too expensive) people will pump up like a bitch and then drop 7-8 kg before a fight with furantril and other deuretic shit. and they're fighting in 60kg when they supposed to be in 67.

but are you talking about pro? i mean i only do amateur, headgear and stuff. full contact is my favourite set of rules, btw. That's because yoy're obliged to do a lot of high-kicks and fights become really spectacular

    Re: full contact

Yeah, just amateur too at the moment. Maybe pro some day but I got into the sport a little late. I'm 25 and I've only been fighting for a couple years. There are some kids who go pro as soon as they turn 18 and it's legal. I've only done full contact, never point fighting. This dumb girl I was sparring last night kept kicking below the belt because she has shitty kicks, not because she was trying to do leg kicks (which aren't legal anyway!!). I kick to the head more often than anything else... just out of habit, not to be spectacular :-) My last fight I dropped 13lbs in 3 days because they "forgot" to tell me the girl weighed 20 lbs less than what we had agreed to.

    Re: full contact

Ugh my trainer wants me to do a muay thai fight but I really don't like leg kicks. My ITB band is already messed up, I don't need anyone kicking me in the leg!!!!!!!
