HI Yall,

 For thoughs who don't know me I'm Craig - Just thought I'd introduce myself before diving into question. Well, I have a couple of questions for you die hard rampage + G&L superstrat, and Cantrell fans - like me.

I play a 1985 vintage yellow (not sure if thats the official color name) Rampage, and it has one of those Kayler locking nuts right after the plastic nut on the head stock. I am thinking about changing the nut to a floyd rose locking nut, but I noticed that the proportion of the space where the original nut is may not be wide enough to facilitate the floyd, but I know that Jerry has a floyd on his and was wondering if any of yall have had experience in installing one of them - just seems like the floyd nut would be wide so some of it would be sticking over the little dip where the neck changes to the head stock. Does that make sense?

 
Ok, a Cantrell question - In some very early shots of Jerry's blue dress rampage, the guitar looks white (Like in the "We Die young" video) when now the same guitar looks completely vintage yellow with some white spots and area's peeking through - I was just curious as to what's going on with that?

From what I remember seeing on the rampages, the nut is a Kahler. I remember Jerry saying he does not like Floyd's stuff. The color of the rampages are white. They have had a long tough life, and tend to yellow with age, just like les pauls. The blue dress one is the most noteable but there is a second one as well. The spots are more then likely from being covered in the past with different stickers. If you have ever noticed, the guitars stickers have changed, moved and disappeared over the years.

I have installed a floyd rose locking nut on my Superhawk. Quite a tedious job, but it looks good.

I hope you can see it, I had to remove some of the fretboard (the part after the bone nut.)

And then I filled the space underneath the locknut with some liquid wood. Otherwise a small part would have been floating.

Wow, I can't believe those guitars were originally white, there are yellower then my yellow rampage - but I can see how that would happen.

Thanks, Valoosj, you did a very nice clean job with that. how did you take the behind the nut board off? I also followed your buying and re-creating the superhawk - very nicely done and very impressive.

 
I have one more questions about fixing finishes. I have a slight crack in the paint where the "shark fin" is on the head stock (look's like part of it was chipped off and glued back on) and I want to find a way to fill in the tiny crack to make it less noticeable - normally I would not care about this kind of thing, even on this rampage as it's an old guitar and has plenty of battle scares, but the place that this thin crack is just bothers me to no end for some reason (kind of like finger nails against a chalk board) - I don't know if anyone else can match me analness on this, but any help would be greatly appreciated.
 

I did that with a special tool used for working with wood.

Where did you follow the revamping of my G&L? I assume on guitarzone.
