I've been considering buying one of those Big Muff pedals... I really need to get some pedals...

It's definatly worth the money man. I can't believe I ever went without this pedal. I used to just use 800's natural distortion usig the bridge for my distorted tone and my neck for the clean by using the toggle switch to go between pickups but it became the biggest pain in the ass, especially being the singer. So I broke down and bought this pedal and I'm sooo happy with it. I have the distorted sound I've wanted for 12 years and can match both Smashing Pumpkins and Fu manchu albums using this thing now :) Only downside it's tougher to pull of squeels.

Hey, what's the difference between the Big Muff Pi American and the Big Muff Pi Russian? And what's all this about the Little Big Muff, the Nano Big Muff, the Double Muff, and the Deluxe Muff? So many Muffs so little $...

Of all of the one's that you can buy in the stores, your best bet is the american big muff pi, the russian isn't so good. i have an old electro harmonix big muff made by sovtek in russia from the 70's that's pretty good that i let my other guitar player use. the little big muff and nano one's are small versions but don't have as much control as you get with the standard size american. the double and deluxe muffs i don't see the point of too be honest, i've spent alot of time trying them out and still prefer the standard american.
so many muffs so little money...are we going pedal shopping or hooker shopping :p

    Re: Your Guitar?

I'll be giving them a try when I go pickup my electric (it's in the shop for a new nut and set up) and I found quite a deal on a new American Muff on ebay: it's $65 free shipping... that's about $10 cheeper than I can find it anywhere else... the adapter is $15 so that comes out to $80 total... sounds good to me!

P.S. All this talk about Big Muff Pi's and I have to go and bring up my guitars nut... guitars are really nasty if you think about it... I know many people at the FCC did while watching Prince at the half time show for the Super Bowl... ;)

    Re: Your Guitar?

Well, I had some free time this afternoon and remembered that I had to take some pictures of my newest guitar, so I took it outside and had myself a good old fashioned photo shoot.

    1989 Ibanez RG-550LB

    Specifications:

    • Laser Blue Finish
    • Black Cosmo Hardware
    • Basswood Body
    • Maple Neck/Fretboard
    • Original Wizard Neck
    • Jumbo Fretwire
    • DiMarzio Cliplock Strap
    • DiMarzio Evolution DP159F Bridge
    • DiMarzio Evolution ISCV2 Middle
    • DiMarzio Evolution DP158F Neck
    • Original Ibanez Edge Tremolo
    • Gotoh Tuning Machines

This guitar is probably the best guitar I have ever had the opportunity to play or own.  First of all I will go through cosmetics.  This is a 1989 Ibanez guitar, so there are going to be some issues.  The finish is pretty thin and has an expected amount of chips, not too bad, I expect that in an older guitar.  The thing is that the finish only has a few flaws in the chips and that is all, no checking or fading.  The fretboard was dirty, but I was able to clean that with some rubbing alcohol and a toothbrush.  The black cosmo hardware is in great condition, no wear shows on it at all, except for at the neckplate where there is some pitting, but this is normal for most Ibanez guitars with said plates.  The playability is spectacular, the action is perfect, no buzzing, the fretwire is in good condition, and the blades on the tremolo are still nicely filed.  The DiMarzio pickups are wired in the same way as an Ibanez JEM which was a big selling point for me, as that was the tone I was looking for.  They are very sensitive, but do not yield any hissing or humming.  They also have a spectacular harmonic range, and respond VERY well to tube distortion.  This guitar is very very well rounded and for the price I could not pass it up.

    Now here's the porn:

Actually here's a trick for taking pictures of your guitar on hardwood, tile, cement, grass or any other surface that could cause scratches:  Take some thin pieces of foam and place them under the guitar in various areas to space the guitar and surface and voila, no worries about picture taking.

    Re: Your Guitar?

My guitar sits in a gloomy corner, shadows hanging over its body and invisible to everyone that is in its presence.   Its collected dust over some time, and a sting is broken.  It is a useless piece of trash, that needs some mental attention as well as physical.... Eek

Nah just joking...well, half joking.  My guitar realy is a dust collector, and has a broken string..and BADLY out of tune...I haven't played it in a while...it needs a makeover.

    Re: Your Guitar?

Mine just had a makeover :D It used to be a butterscotch coloured telecaster. I got my boyfriend to sand all the paint off the front of the guitar, varnish it and spray the pickguard black, looks way better than before. It used to just sit in the corner of my room for ages not being played. But hopefully now I might actually start playing it, I've just got to self teach myself. The difficult part is knowing where to start....

    Re: Your Guitar?

I just made a major gear overhaul myself.

    1.  I upgraded from the JB and Jazz in my Rampage to a D-Sonic and Air Norton.
    2.  Sold off my 5150, Ibanez RG550, Guild D4, and equalizer.
    3.  Bought a 1994 Mesa/Boogie Mark IVA shorthead, and an Avatar G212 Vintage cab (loaded with a Vintage 30 and a G12H30).

    Here is the new rig:
