    New Rampage pics

For you G&L Rampage (superstrat) fans, I've posted some photos in the "Your guitars?" thread. Just thought I'd mention.

    Re: New Rampage pics

Thanks. It's my #1. I saw a Rampage "re-issue" go for $1,625 yesterday on ebay. I paid around $600 for mine a year ago and thought I was paying a lot for it (don't get me wrong, I feel the guitar is worth every penny I paid for it and more) compared to the $300 - 400 people were paying a few years ago, but these things are increasing in value insanely fast and there seem to be very few of them out there.

<> I think G&L should really consider coming out with some re-issues of not only the Rampage, but all the 80's Superstrats - it seems like there is a lot of interest in them right now and it would be silly not to take advantage of that. I know I'd pick up a couple of them if they did.

Yes it is - for that I believe we can thanks Mr. Cantrell for popularizing it, and G&L for making very few of them.

Hey Craig, your Rampage is sweet ... Oh, and welcome to the board! I bought a train wreck '86 Rampage off Ebay about 3 years ago and it's finally being finished! I will post some "before" pictures and as soon as she's done - the afters!

    Re: New Rampage pics

Thanks for the welcome and compliment, Headcreeps. I'm really looking forward to the before and after pics of yours. Mind me asking how much you snagged it for? I just asking because I'm interested to know what they were going for 3 years ago.

<>I've been considering building a replica Rampage/super strat (maybe with an extra pick-up) out of warmoth body and neck blanks, using my Rampage as a guide for measurements. I can't seem to find another for a reasonable price, so I figured it may be easier to just build one.

    Re: New Rampage pics

I just looked at my eBay account and I actually bought it 4 years ago! It was an absolute score at 250 bucks - but keep in mind that the paint was stripped off the body, the headstock was pink and it was unplayable. The Kahler that was on it had so much crust and corrosion that I had to buy a new one! The only thing that was salvageable was the machineheads, the body and the neck. The pick-up looked as if it had been melted! I'll try and get some photos up tonight to illustrate just what a mess it was!

    Re: New Rampage pics

Awesome, I'm looking forward to the pics.

$250 is a huge score, even if the pick-up and bridge were history. I personally think you are really paying for the quality of craftsmenship - the Kayhler and Pick-up are easily switched, but the body and neck are hard to fine gems.

    Re: New Rampage pics

Yeah, I agree $250 was a HUGE score for certain! And luckily the neck and the body were in pretty decent shape. Although whoever owned before me had a tone knob installed in it (which has been filled back in!) and one of the screws that held the strap-loks on had broken off inside the body - other than that though, not too bad! I'd say all in all, I'll probably have about $1200 into the whole project: Rampage: $250 - Kahler Tremolo (including locking nut and arm): $345 - Semour Duncan JB TB-4: $75 - Ernie Ball Slinkys (10s): $5 - Dunlop Strap-Loks: $15 - headstock graphics (which I had recreated in Adobe Illustrator and had output) $10.50 and the monster hit is the refinishing and set-up fee: $500! I'm having it painted Ford White Sand Tri-Coat and the covers are being finished in satin black. It's a lot of money, I know, which is why it's taken so long to get to this point, but it will basically be a brand-spanking new guitar set up and done exactly as I wanted. The guy I have doing it for me has set up my guitars for years and he knows exactly what I like, so I have the comfort of knowing it's going to be done right! Anyway, here's the link to the photos of it so far - rather than posting 100 photos here - I'll update it when progress is made so you all can share in my joy! http://s117.photobucket.com/albums/o74/headcreepz/?special_track=nav_tab_album

Looks like you have some nice bones to work with - I can't wait to see the end result. Good luck with the reconstruction.
