If you still want some new tunings to mess with, right now, tune every string somewhere between 1/2 and 3 steps down, depending on where it hits first on your tuner, then beat the shit out of your guitar for a few days for hours on end. You get a real great sound. I use it all the time.

Ok well trying not to go into a whole lot. i will try to keep it simple. i ama guitar teacher at my own studio. but if you know the names of your strings then it is much easier to just buy a tuner and tune to the different tuning. i go by my ear cause i've been playing a long time. but ask somone at the music store that you want a tuner that tunes in different tunings. i have a Boss but not sure they sell it anymore. but i know they have others. jerry is tuned a half step down. what this means ok. well the names of your strings. starting from the sixth string which is the biggest string. it goes EADGBE and i teach it like this. Eddie, Ate, Dynomite, Good, Bye, Eddie. now if you tune in different tunings such as the half stedp when you look at your tuner the letters need to match up with the tuner. so if you tune your sixth string it has to read Eb (b) this means flat. which is the half step down. ok so if you tuen your guitar to match the tuner it needs to say Eb Ab Db Gb Bb Eb. that is 6th string, 5th, 4th, 3rd, 2nd, 1st. in that order. so each string gets a lettername as well as a number. and the line needs to read in the middle and the right letter or string number needs to read as well. be sure of both. other cool tunings which i play alot in are Dsus, D, and open E. Jimmy page played in a lot of open tunings. i really love open D. to tune to this one it is starting with the Low sixth string DGDGBD they are basically tuned to the chord. like this would be the notes in the D chord. ok well if you need anymore info you can pm me. but im charging $25 bucks. hahha. kidding. peace...

SmexyKream:Can someone explain to me what these "steps" are anyway?
If you have a Korg tuner, I'm pretty sure they're the little dot things. I have no idea though.

If you don't have a tuner that does step tuning you can tune down by fretting a note and tuning.
Say if you want to tune to Eb, it's a half step down. Fret the first Fret, tune it to E. With the string open, you now have Eb. Same goes if you want Db on the E string. That is 2 one half steps, so Fret the second (third for Db) fret, tune it to E, and you have D when open. It's sort of like the opposite of using a capo.
So if you want to tune to Jerry's tuning. Just place your finger on the first fret, and tune it normally. You will have Eb, Jerry's main tuning. To get Drop Db, that he sometimes uses, Tune all the strings the same way, except the large/top E string, place your finger at the third fret. This will get you Db.
Drop Db is used for Dam that River and Them bones, off the top of my head. Most of the other songs are just standard Eb. I'm trying to think if there are any AIC tunes that he uses any weird tunings on. I know on a couple solo songs he used different tunings, but for the most part he uses the same one.
That's how you become great, man, hang your balls out there.

hahaha Creep you crack me up. steps are just moving from fret to fret. so if you go from on fret to the very next it is a half step if you skip over a fret it is called a whole step. that's what is meant by steps. but yes, the Korg is a good way to tune half step down as well. but make sure the number reads 440 then all the letters should read with a ( b) sign in front of each letter. this means to lower the strings down and the needle still needs to read in the middle.
Oh, ok. Thanks. I haven't used mine in a while, I might dig it out and give a real tuning a shot Yeah actually I just changed my mind already. I don't really get the big deal over tunings. I like randomness a little. I'd hate to hear a song from a studio version and then play it exactly like it. That seems kind of lame to me.

SmexyKream:How much does a Korg tuner run for?
I think 20 or 30 bucks, it's been a year, I'm not really sure now.
