Yes! Thats another great song. Laynes vocals on that give me goosebumps.

Nutshell... especially the unplugged version, if that counts.

It's the first song on my Alice playlist, plus just the amazing simplicity of the song, it gives me chills. I've come across very few other songs that are sung with such feeling.

    BlackCross:

    A little Bitter

Layne is so intense and angry like he is directing the lyrics at somone who has wronged him. Every member really shines in that song.

Get Born Again and Head Creeps should not be forgotten either.

fuck, i was thinking the same when i first saw the question.
    it's def A little Bitter

i dont know, imo, i do see lots of anger happening during the years when layne is still in the aic

the band was struggling to get together to make music, layne is struggling with his life (which very unfortunate, at the end of his years, i think he is still very angry about himself about not being able to solve his problems)

i dont know, it's just my opinion

but since now the aic is getting new stuff, i think there will be definitely a new song that could define the band;-)

    Re: Most Definitive Song?

easy...Would?    Would? represent everything that AIC is.  Guitar solo, Singing Layne/Screaming Layne, heavy bass riff, Seattle scene (Andrew Wood), drugs.  And then there is the video aspect which clearly is identified by the trends they set, (Mikes attire) (Laynes beard) (Jerry's stocking cap).

IMO you can't have a song representing AIC without a drug reference and a video.  Creatively, AIC could tell us the story of a song through its videos.  All other songs are left to speculation.  I'm not saying that I dont like songs like "Whale & Wasp" and "A Little Bitter", there tremendous.  I realize this topic asks us personally to descripe their most definitive song, but amongst the populous, "Would?" is their most identifiable song.

    Re: Most Definitive Song?

    "Would?" . . . "Man in the Box" . . . "Angry Chair" . . . "Sea of Sorrow" . . .

    "Nutshell" . . . "No Excuses" . . .

But -- These songs, even if I heard them for the first time and didn't know the artist, I'd still recognize them as AIC's for more than the obvious reasons:

"Rotten Apple," "Got Me Wrong," and "Get Born Again"

    You are never really dead

    Re: Most Definitive Song?

For me.. Dirt and Angry Chair are tied as their most definitive songs. Dark lyrics and melody.

But.. in general, I'd go with Man in the box or Would? because were big hits and.. well.. because they're great songs!

    Re: Most Definitive Song?

Everybody has listed great songs. Definitive for an individual is probably different than definitive in a general sense. You can't argue against Would? For the general public, I would say either Man in the Box/Them Bones, I'll go with Them Bones.

RIP Layne. The music lives on..........

Definitely "Down in a Hole" which just breathes despair and pain.   Such raw emotion that just moves me every single time I listen to it...

Down in a Hole, Losin' Control

    Re: Most Definitive Song?

^^"Junkhead" would be my second choice or sth.

But I'd go with "Angry Chair". You can't be more unique and amazingly haunting than that.

    Re: Most Definitive Song?

Every album has it's share of songs that are the "definitive" sound of Alice. In my eyes, there have RARELY been many bands that could stylistically be as diverse as AiC, but still have an almost trademark sound. So, here are the ones that stick out by album.

    Facelift

    We Die Young

    Bleed the Freak

    Confusion

    Sunshine

    The Real Thing

    Dirt

    Rain When I Die

    Down In A Hole

    Junkhead

    Dirt

    Hate To Feel

    Sap

     Brother

    Am I Inside

    Jar of Flies

     everything except Swing On This

    S/T

    Sludge Factory

    Head Creeps

    Shame In You

    God Am

    Frogs

    Various

    What the Hell Have I?

    A Little Bitter

    Fear the Voices

    Get Born Again

sorry for the length of this post!!! Rock On

LOL Yes, I fully agree on that. Yes

It's too hard to narrow it down, so I'm not even going to try, because it changes every day. I'm actually pretty cool with your album by album list, especially the lack of Them Bones being on there, so... Yeah, man, seriously, good job. LOL
