    rstone27 original songs

Well here's a moment to try to embarass myself...

an original song written after the death of a friend that I knew for too short a time, but felt as if I had known them my entire life...

    "Fade Away"

Re: Fade Away - an original by me...

Good stuff... if you were to put in a good bass line and add a solo that song would sound like it belongs on the radio!  I loved your 12-string, gave the song that deeper sound, you know?

How long did it take you to write?  Sounds like it took quite a while.

Re: Fade Away - an original by me...

    Funny you ask that...

I was having trouble coming up with a nice rhythm/chord structure, and the words i came up with just didn't seem to be fitting right...

I was getting frustrated because i really wanted everything to be just right... but nothing seemed to be going the way I wanted.

So i stopped trying for a couple of days... I was sick, and was sitting at my computer one morning, when i came across several messages exchanged between us...

I picked up my guitar as i sat there, and strummed a few chords. Close but not quite what i wanted...

So i grabbed my capo and set it at the second fret and tried the chords again... within an hour, i had the music, words, and melody.

I truly think she was there with me as i created this song...

It still gives me chills when i think about it...

yeah... that's how it goes for me a lot too. I'll get some good lyrics, then I can't find anything on the guitar I think is good enough... then out of nowhere something will inspire it and the whole song will come together.

Re: Fade Away - an original by me...

As I'm sitting here this Memorial Day weekend... I realize that this song could also have meaning for the day that it is today. This was written as a way to get through some of the pain and hurt I had felt at the loss of someone I was close to.

Hopefully we can all take to heart the meaning of this song, and never let the memories of those who have sacrificed so much for us, fade away....

    That's a great song, man.

Lemme know if you ever do a studio/home-studio version of it – I'd really like to hear it.

    O.K.

Decided to change the title of the thread because I'm going to post another song or 2.

so here we go... another song...

This song is called "So Close, So Far Away"

    Again, played on my 12-string...

I screwed up on some fills because it's my acoustic that i'm not used to soloing on... so please excuse those...

    So here we go again...

I'm starting to write more stuff again, and while posting it on a couple of different blogs I have... I've neglected to do so here for some odd reason

So I'll start with my latest...

Hollow & Empty (although at the beginning of the video I accidentally say the name of another of my songs).

I would definitely like to hear any and all feedback...

Your songs are really good!  I liked them all, but "So Close, So Far Away" best...... beautiful.

    Re: rstone27 original songs

    o.k.

Gonna finally "sac" up and play an open mic this coming friday at a coffee shop close to my home...

I'll get to play about 4 of my songs in the time I'll have allotted to me...

First time playing in front of people in quite awhile, and since I don't drink anymore... can't have a before show drink to calm, the nerves.

Oh well... stage fright aside.. I think once I get past the first initial song, I'll be o.k.

I'll maybe throw in "Rooster" to start off with so I can get by the jitters...

I'll see if iI can't get someone to record it, and I'll post it...

    Cya!
