    Into The Wild

Has anyone checked out Ediie Vedder's solo effort, the Into The Wild soundtrack??? This is an excellent, abeit short, album. The movie is also VERY good. I wish I had the courage to drop out like that kid did!! Forget all the bullshit and material-ness of the world and go on the road. Check it out if you have the time!!! Very sad ending but still a GREAT movie and album.

    Re: Into The Wild

I was actually paying attention at the beginning and was surprised that Eddie wrote/performed the musical score for this.  It was a great movie, I didn't even know it was a true story!  so yeah, I was shocked at the end.  Rent it, worth the watch!

    Re: Into The Wild

Incredible is the only word I can use to describe his solo album. I listen to it pretty much every day. Yes its short but it doesn't really matter as quality over quantity is what matters. Eddie is a seriously talented man, and I look forward to more solo stuff (as much as I love Pearl Jam).

My favourite songs have to be Setting Forth, No Ceiling, Hard Sun & Society (Society being not only one of my favourite Eddie songs, but one of my all time favourite songs ever, such feeling in his singing!)

    I love the film too!

    Re: Into The Wild

I read this book a few years back and it really hit a nerve.  Maybe because I have 2 sons.  Also--there is an old broken down school bus that I pass by everyday on my way to work, so I always think about that dude.

I had no idea that Eddie even had this solo project.  I am totally going to check this out--

    Thanks!!  Smile

    Re: Into The Wild

I heard it's fantastic.... and I know it's been a very special project to Eddie and was many years in the making....

I believe he was even nominated for an Oscar for the soundtrack - not sure about that, but I know he was at the Oscar's because I saw him....

He's very proud of it.... I really want to hear it.

    Re: Into The Wild

It's one my favourite films....I love Sean Penn...now as a producer as well! And that Emile Hirsch is a cutie (actually, a hottie)!!! I also loved the book but it gets boring from time to time, whereas the film never does....

The soundtrack is a masterpiece!!! And once you've seen the film, it's even better...He could not have done a better job...

OMG!  What an awesome movie!  I knew the story, and I still cried!

I love Catherine Keener, so I was pleasantly surprised she was the cool hippie chick.

And the music!!!! Broken Heart  I am definately buying the soundtrack.  I have been humming like Eddie all day!

My son wanted to know what it is about--so I briefly explained.  He says, "But he makes up with his parents at the end, right Mom?"--Crying Broken Heart

awww...the sad thing is it seems like maybe he was headed towards seeing his parents again when he died.  Guess everyone wants their mommy when they're suffering.  Crying

All three, book, movie and soundtrack are awesome.

Awww, bless him!!!! He does make up with them...I guess...In his mind and heart he did, he did want to go back at some stage so perhaps he was going to face that...I totally adored this film...And Soly, once you hear that soundtrack on a CD you'll love it even more....Guaranteed and Society are my faves!!!!

Here, I love this scene, when Chris sees reindeer for the first time (boy did I cry while watching this film!!!):

I am ordering that CD tonight!!!

How about when the old guy wanted to adopt him?!?!?!Broken Heart

I thought I read somewhere that the old guy--I forget his name--Rick?  was the real person Chris met.  But my husband said it is Hal Holbrook.  Anybody know?

    Into The Wild

If that's the name of the actor then it's defo not him cuz his name was Franz something (apparently)...The part about him in the book is really moving...And yes, when he asks him to adopt him...=(

    Re: Into The Wild

I have not heard this soundtrack(nor seen the movie) but McCandless grew up like two miles from me , I did not know him. When I read the book originally, it left me feeling a bit mixed and unsettled. McCandless had trouble with the  grip on that slippery bar of soap called idealism. He made one mistake at the end or he probably would have made it back.

RIP Layne. The music lives on..........

    Re: Into The Wild

That was my thoughts about it, had he done one or two things differently, he would have ended up with a great story to tell his grandkids...
