Re: Alice In Chains (self-titled)
i love this album, although i think dirt is slightly better. They're both two of the best albums of the nineties, if not the best. every song on self titled is great, jerry's guitar is awesome, as usual lol. but layne's lyrics are great on shame in you and god am. If you understand the lyrics, shame in you will make you wanna never judge anyone or point out their mistakes again. God am is very offensive to some, but layne makes some of the best points about his frustratons with god. It's good because his frustrations are expressed in such an intellectual way that they actually do make you wonder "can you be as your God am?" "invite you in my heart, ten When done, my sins forgiven? This God of mine relaxes World dies I still pay taxes" that's awesome
You're right as rain, but you're wrong to blame, agreed my crime's the same. My sins ill claim, give you back shed pain, go find a place for own shame. So you can deal with this thing unreal, no one made you feel any hurt

Re: Alice In Chains (self-titled)
You guys are making me want to go out & buy this album again! I got it when it first came out but I was going through some serious personal issues at the time & I failed to medicate myself w/ Alice that time. I did listen to it quite a bit but I didn't let it sink in fully, & then it got transferred into that magical void where all lost cd's end up. Stand out tracks that I remember were Sludge Factory, God Am, Frogs & Again.

Re: Alice In Chains (self-titled)
I pretty much agree with what everyones said regarding this album. It's glorious. I read through pretty quickly but one of the things that stuck out to me was someone said "epic" and didn't mention "Over Now." Over Now, to me is an amazing tune. I especially love the guitar arrangement during the bridge (the "we pay our debt some time" part) So every other song was already touched on so I figured I'd throw that out there.

Re: Alice In Chains (self-titled)
I'm still trying to get into this album as I only started listening to AIC recently, but particular tracks that are always on my playlist are God Am, Sludge Factory, and Again.

Re: Alice In Chains (self-titled)
Honestly, I didnt even like Over Now until hearing it and watching it on unplugged. The guitar parts and him whaling out "yeah we pay our debts sometime" still gives me the chills.
I'm not fine, fuck pretending.

Re: Alice In Chains (self-titled)
Just another few points about this last Layne album with AIC. If you ever noticed, Jerry did most of the writing on the early albums. Layne had only wrote a few songs, both music and lyrics. I feel he was starting to come into his own as a complete songwriter. Take Head Creeps for example. A KILLER tune written by Layne, music AND lyrics. Also, Frogs, what can I say about this one? A creepy, melodic tune that still stands the test of time as one Alice's best. The jam oriented ending is a bit of a departure for them, but as one reviewer already noted, this album was a bit more of that than their previous efforts. Though Dirt is my personal favorite, I find that I listen to this one more these days. SO CRAZY BEAT THE STRAIN TOO LAZY SHAKE THE GREY SO AND SHE WILLED THE RAIN SO LET ME BE DEFAMED YOUR RENDUNANCY STAINS TIRED OF INFANTILE CLAIMS LIKE PUPPETS ON THIER STRINGS UNTANGLE YOU FROM ME TIME TO CALL THE DOGGIES OFF

Re: Alice In Chains (self-titled)
A love playing the crap out of Head Creeps because that's like one of my top 3 songs from AIC. I love all the songs though, least played song is probably Nothin' Song but I still play it alot lol. The last verse in Head Creeps is just ...just to think if Layne would've pulled through

Re: Alice In Chains (self-titled)
This album took a little time to grow on me. I aways liked it but was not my favorite for a long time. Then all of a sudden i realized just how incredible it is. I hope the new album has the same heavy riffs. God am I wanna hear this new album!

Re: Alice In Chains (self-titled)
Layne really hit it right when he wrote Head Creeps. This album is by far my favorite.

Re: Alice In Chains (self-titled)
My favourite AIC album by far! Its just TOO good. I can't ever describe how amazing this album is. I don't think anyone has ever really understood me when I've told them this is the darkest and most depressing album I've ever heard. It also isn't a bad thing, its a great thing - I can relate to it so much more, because I get depression. Its so raw and powerful, and full of superb LONG songs, and I love long songs. This album was worth buying. From the moment I sat down to listen, I fell in love with it, and it grew on me more and more over time. Brush Away is so bizarre, it always makes me think of huge alien ants (don't ask why). Sludge Factory is so dark and awesome. Frogs is a definite classic. Damn this album is dark and yet at the same time so beautifully poignant.. Incredible.
