    Re: Upcoming release

Just think of it like this. Music as a hole needs this. The one truely sad aspect of modern music 80's-late 90's. Is that it just dropped off. All the great bands of this time line just disappeared due to deaths of band members or bands spliting up and so on. I feel as a direct result music took a nose dive. It's like taking a child and being a parent to it for a couple years then leaving to have fend for it self at a young age. Todays generation of music was dropped off on a door step and left with out any guidence. Now we're left with what we have. This is a huge chance to bring modern "rock" back from the dead! And show bands it takes more than knowing three chords and wearing certain clothes that'll get you on tv and posters! The truely sad thing is the market is'nt right for alice to make the impact we a ll dream of them having. For us true fans we know what this band is capable of doing and got a good idea whats about o come out will be unbelivable. Todays youth will not have the chance to truely enjoy this music cause the marketing just isnt there. Alice will get it's spins on the radio but will quickly lose ground to bands like five finger death punch and fall out boy. And thats sad!!!! But with any luck these bands will take a long hard listen to whats going to be coming out and hopefully see what it takes to become a legend in the music biz!

Looking forward to the new album.  Just one request, I want Jerry to do some singing on this album as well.  I really hope he contributes a lot of vocals.

    Re: Upcoming release

I am hype for some new Alice In Chains tunes. Anytime you get Jerry to write a song you know it's going to be epic. He indeed the best song writer i've ever heard of; from tunes like "What the Hell Have I" all the way to his solo songs like "Settling Down", Jerry is a true ICON. I just hope I hear more of Jerry's voice then Will's. On second thought, I miss Layne, but I know it's time for these guys to move on because if you look beyond Layne's hauting harmonies, he was the reason this why this band never took off the way they should have. It's just a darn shame he couldn't get his act together, but I am like I said before amped for some new tunes....."How do you feel?, I havn't felt like this in long." So Alice fans it's time for Alice In Chains to "Get Born Again."

    Re: Upcoming release

I cant wait for the day I walk (make that run!) to my record store and see their new album sitting on the rack. Im going to wear my Alice t-shirt, get my photo taken of the momentus occasion of me picking the CD up and then come home screaming like an excited little girl. And then that moment when I hear the first riff or drumbeat or vocal will be one of the best feelings ever!

Saying that I hope the guitar work is a bit more creative than Jerry's solo stuff.

    Re: Upcoming release

When the new album is released (which I am totally stoked about), I am going to be buying at least two copies, and am encouraging all of my friends to do the same.

The whole modern rock scene needs a massive shake up to get away from the whole cookie cutter, music by numbers corporate rock, AIC will be like a massive breath of fresh air.

I cannot wait, and have my fingers, toes and everything else crossed that they tour to Australia in support of the new album.

    Cheers

    Steve

Hummmm. I strongly agree with some thoughts shared on this thread but strongly disagree with some others. Plenty of passionate people here, it easy to see how debates can quickly get intense. I will stay away from digressing too much on this thread per the mods direction. After Facelift, the band was subject to everybodys reviews and opinions on what their next album should "be like". The band simply stayed true to themselves and came out with DIRT, not too shabby. The releases of SAP and Jar of Flies was also a sign that this band did things their own way. These albums were successful and of high quality. Then, AIC lays Tripod and unplugged on you. AIC was always morphing and never really listened to anybody but themselves, that is part of the reason I like them. The albums(lyrically and musically) have always reflected where the group was at a particular point on time. This band has been down a very interesting road with lots of twists and turns to where they find themselves in 2008. AIC does not do the same thing over and over again, and that is a good thing. Yes, they have lost a mate, but I applaud the guys in continuing to create music which is apparently what they are doing as we speak(or type). The next album should not be what "we want", they should not have to answer to anyone or defend themselves as to how they execute their craft. AIC should just stay true to themselves. When they do, they have blown me away time and time again. They have shown that their minds are open, we should keep our minds open too. Looking forward to the next new creation. Put me down for a copy.

RIP Layne. The music lives on..........

The only thing in that post I disagree with is how you listened to Rif. But once you get some more posts in, you won't fear the mods anymore, and it'll all be good. LOL

Jerry is the greatest songwriter of his generation.  I expect this album to easily be the best album of the 21st century to date.

    I couldnt agree more.

Honestly people, it is highly unfair to say things like "Layne was AiC". Not because its untrue or true, but because you cannot offer a dissenting point of view without it coming off as disrespectful of Layne. So just stop with that crap already.

To: kimldk,, I could not agree with you more. Before replying, I actually went back and checked who wrote the lyrics to which songs because I thought Cantrell wrote more of them. But you are right, it is close to 50/50. It is just that the lyrics to Cantrells songs are the ones that I relate to the most.

    ROCK ON ALICE!!!!

    Re: Upcoming release

I'm looking forward to the new music with great anticipation.  I love Layne.  I hate that he doesn't get enough recognition and respect for his talent that he deserves.  With that being said, their were three other people in this band who are talented as well, and they should have a chance to go on with their careers and make music.

    kimldk:
Quote: "First of all Layne WAS Alice."

I keep seeing this comment all over, but fail to see exactly why. I love and adore Layne as much as everyone else, but he wasn't AIC by himself - far from. If anyone one person should be called AIC it should be Jerry.

Quote: "If you look at the writing credits of your favorite songs Layne was probably half."

How do you know what my favorite songs are?

Quote: " He wrote almost the entire Alice In Chains album and a lot of other key songs."

This couldn't be further from the truth. Jerry has written probably 90% of the music and around 50% of the lyrics.

As far as i see it, Layne choose his own destiny. He quit/passed away. As sad as that is, i don't see why the rest of the band shouldn't call themselves AIC. People/journalists would always refer to them as the guys from AIC anyway. And that's what they are - the guys from AIC.

Bring on the new album. I, for one, can't wait!

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This pretty much sums it up, good post ;).

Jerry Cantrell was the primary song writer, and IMO is one of the best song writers of the last 25 years. AIC has always been a huge influence on my playing style, and I for one am looking forward to the new Album. It's been awhile since i've actually looked forward to an album coming out, with all the crap that gets forcefed to us these days. Bring back the early 90's Cool

Jerry, Mike and Sean were making music outside of Alice before, during and after Layne died.

    Re: Upcoming release

I wished that the band would have remained the 3 of them. Jerry, mike and sean. Jerry on lead vocals and guitar. It still would sound much the same because jerry was so involved with singing with layne anyway. His vocals are great and were such a compliment to laynes. You can't replace layne staley but I'm not mad cause I know it will be a solid record. It might be the next big rock album of the century.
