it was funny because I have a friend that says he met layne and the band in new orleans in '94 or idk somewhere around that time I guess, and he said you guys were assholes and were about to fight him..idk if i believe him or not, because I dont see you guys as being one to pick a fight unless its nessary, and layne doesnt look like a fighter..more like a peace maker but a troublemaker.well I love all of his songs,I cant choose at all,and his voice is just soo unique even though he said he sounded like a lark...but I like his quote that says his songs dont really have a particular meaning, its whatever you..the listener perceives it as,and that the meaning of his songs changed from day to day,I really liked that because no matter what poeple are going to relate the songs to their daily problems and situations.idk  that just got me thinking........but I wish someone would put out a book about him...not just about his well-known drug problem he had but about what he liked to do besides music and his other passions like i read somewhere he liked to draw and stuff, and what his childhood was like in detail about what he did, what his hobbys were as a kid.because to me he wasnt just a junkie.and its true what he says about drugs they seem fun to try but once your addicted, even if you want to quit its nearly impossible,I was thinking about that.....like something as simple as being addicted to ciggarettes, you know what harm its doing to your body and even if you want to quit its not impossible but its hard and after awhile your just like whats the point in quitting.but he was an awesome person.I wish I knew him personally.well AIC  is still the most awesome band ever and his music touched alot of people.and for that I thank layne for his awesome music, there will never be another band like AiC when layne was in the band. AIC  forever!

Re: Yo we miss u Layne

4/20 - today is the day they found Layne's body.

Wish I had found him before 4/5/02 and tried to help.  Not that I may have made a difference, but wish I could have tried.  You never know.  Any one of us may have been the one to make a difference.

Re:  Demri.  I have some thoughts on that, but not on a sad day like today.

Just thinking of him laying there for 3 weeks hurts my heart.

Ok, it was actually 4/19 that his body was found, and not 4/20. Police report says 4/19, but it has been widely reported it was 4/20. I'm still sad.

    Re: Memories of Layne

Obviously, I'm catching up on all the threads and posting a few now. But, I have a question regarding this. I heard an interview with Layne (he was on the phone) in 1999. He said that "It's Coming After" was recorded with the brother of the lead singer of Second Coming and, when Second Coming put out their album, they added that track to it to give it some credibility. In fact, Layne says in the interview: "He ripped me off. The punk." Anyone know more on that?

Ugh! I'm so sorry -- I'll figure out how to attach the original post that I'm responding to, I promise! My below post is in response to what SoulDesertion posted about the song "It's Coming After" and the long quote she posted. Sorry I didn't attach it. I thought I did. :(

Wow..I'd not heard that before...i'd be interested to hear more if anyone has info....

That song is brilliant....it'd be a shame if it's true. Admittedly, it's reasonably different to all of Second Coming's other stuff - so very Layne lyrics wise...."A whispery cat in a burgundy hat" (of course the hat would be burgundy - huh!)

    Hehe I love that interview.

I believe he was joking when he said that... I mean, if he thought they ripped him off, he wouldn't have performed the song live with them a few times in 1994 ;)

Here's the link to the interview.  There are 10 parts to the interview but, specifically, it's part 9 in the beginning where Layne explains the story behind "It's Coming After".  It was recorded before AiC was together.

    Here's Part 9:

The entire interview is really good!  Layne is hysterical, cracking jokes.  It's great to hear him laugh.  He mentions *several* times that he wants to do another album with the guys.  All the while saying, "let's do it!", "let's go", etc.  They had other projects going on, though.  Mainly, Jerry's album.

    MemoryLayne,

You may be right that he was joking.  I'm not sure.  It sounded like he was serious, especially when the other guys chimed in saying that it was before AiC was together.  I'm not 100% sure (and I don't remember where I heard it), but I also thought that Second Coming put the song on their album after Layne performed it with them; kind of added it at the last minute on their 1994 album.  Again, not 100% sure.

I do love that interview!!  Smile

Actually I have heard that Second coming would always put a "special guest"  sign or something at their concerts after that and Layne would never show, so they were teasing a bunch of people for along time after that incident.

Layne's vocals got me through my "teenage angst" years. I thank him for making them so much more easier. I never knew the guy, but I find it pretty magnificant how artists can touch peoples lives without ever meetin them, as he did mine. There was nothing like having a rough day and coming home and listening to some Alice in Chains. It felt as tho I was letting the pain out. I could feel Layne's pain and somehow it helped me get through mine. The only time it didnt help was when I heard that Layne died. The savior of my teen years had passed. There would be no more helping me through his music, but I thank him for all he had done already. Thank you Layne. AIC 4ever!

i know exactly how you feel man..................with respect to william, no one will ever be able to sing as good as layne. it almost makes you wanna brake into tears to know your favorite singer in the world just died. im not good at writing emotional stuff and never will, but you get the point of how important layne was to everyone.
