    Re: Rush

I believe they are still capable of something epic before retirement.

Which is why I don't mind them riding the coat tails of last year's success.

But, I also keep in mind that they are grandfathers--or nearly grandfathers. ..

    Re: Rush

I'm sure they're still capable. I just wish they'd actually do it. I have little faith that it will ever happen though. Whatever. Even mediocre Rush is still better than most bands. S&A is still their best in a while.

Of course they will.   They are always on the look out for the few females in the sea of men!

I had copied this Rockline message from my inbox and was ready to paste it into this thread! Cool

Now I am all pumped up, and I still have more than 2 months to wait!!!

    Re: Rush

hehe-I guess we're on the same wave length...

I have been reigning in my anticipation for months now, can't believe its finally here.  They haven't been here since Vapor Trails-before that it was like 15 years.  I wanted to go to Red Rocks to see them on the last tour, but it was at a time that I absolutely could not take time off work...

This should be interesting.  I'm going with my 16 year old son.  My regular concert buddy got a job out of town right after we bought tickets.  I thought my son *should* go because he's a drummer, but didn't think he'd want to go.  He is showing NO enthusiasm about going, which is not unusual for him, even if it's something he IS excited about.

So I have no idea how he's going to feel about going.  When I've taken him to shows in the past he's embarrassed to be with his mom.  He will be even more embarrassed at this show because I do not plan on holding back my enthusiasm.

    Re: Rush

I hope it works out for both of you!  What a great experience to share!

Our 7 yr old talks about his show all the time!  We got a bootleg from his show that he watches quite a bit.

We could only get 2 Toronto tix.  I think I am going to give mine up to my son.  I still have Hershey........

Okay--I have given you 2 whole days to recover. . . .How was it?

I heard Ged was more animated than usual at your show.  Can you corroborate that story?

Hard to corroborate since they haven't been here since Vapour Trails-and before that it was 15 YEARS!

Where did you read show reviews from our show-I'd love to see em!

Awesome show-my 16 year old even liked it and he rarely admits to liking anything I like.

    Re: Rush

Nice uhhh....shirt! Sorry-no offense intended, for real. I'm envious you got to see them, though.Rush is a great prog-rock band. Neil is my favorite drummer by far, and I love Geddy's phrasing on bass. And Alex is definitely no slouch either. "Priests of the temple of Syrinx" is a masterpiece, as is the whole 2112 album.

I am glad you had a good show!

    Awesome shirt!

     I think it's www.rushisaband.com

If not, I'll post otherwise.  I only have enough time on here for this site--my husband tells me what he reads about Rush.

Here is a great story from your show--Alex threw a pick to this girl--she fell over the railing trying to get it--so this dude who posted got the pick, helped her up and gave it to her.  Alex sees this and gives the guy a thumbs up and asks his name.  After intermission, he brings him a signed (all 3) photo with his name and a note saying--thanks for doing the right thing or something like that!!  Mr Green

    Re: Rush

That's a great story.  Here's a little bit of another one-there is one DJ for the rock radio station here who is a huge Rush geek.  He grew up here, went to the same high school as me, but he's 3 or 4 years younger than me.  He's a bass player he tells a story about when he snuck out of the house as a kid to see them..  I think he says he's traveled to see them 20 something times-I sort of live vicariously through his stories because I have missed a lot of tours since they don't come here much...

Anyway, he is just a fan boy, but he has totally been pimping the show out of sheer excitement.  He does the afternoon show and did his show from the venue and again, just raved about how awesome the show was going to be.  The band manager sought him out, made sure he was in the front row, got him a couple of pair of Peart's sticks (and the DJ had a little contest to give away the second pair).

I didn't know about all this till the next day, but during the show I thought to myself "the band should do something for Rob" because this is NOT a case where the DJ is doing this for commercial reasons, it was out of love for the band.  He was lucky enough that the band was able to find him, but I bet you a ton of people bought tickets for show just based on his enthusiasm and he deserved a little love from the band

    Re: Rush

A friend of mine just got to meet Ged and Alex and check out all of Ged's basses.   He is going to try to secure us meet and greet passes for our Hershey show!  Party!!!  I don't want to post his whole story, but this is the best part:

So, I told security I was with Fender and wanted to thank Russ
Ryan (Geddy's bass tech) for the tix. He led us to side stage where we
met him. He was very cool... He took us on the stage pre show and
showed us all Geddy's basses. All J-basses, except for the classic Ric
that he used only on "Passage to Bangkok". His main bass is a vintage
'72 Jazz bass with a recent custom shop neck. He had a Jaco C-shop bass
that he uses on a couple of the new songs, a spare custom shop '72 and a
few others in spare or alt tunings.

At this point we could have gone home happy! But there was still a
show... :) Our seats were awesome.

Alex played all Gibson's except for a 12 string Martin and a classical.
Some of the LP's had Floyd Rose's. He also played the white ES355 and
the sunburst Gibson Howard Roberts Fusion. 4 Hughes/Kettner stacks
too... Geddy plays with rack mounted amplifiers direct through the PA.
In place of cabs, Geddy had 3 rotisserie chicken ovens! Funny...

    Wow.
