    Re: Facelift

Facelift got it all started for me. It's still one of my favorite albums--Jerry's solos are smoking on that disc!Dirt & Jar were a lot deeper as far as song structure & subject matter, but Facelift was the one I cut my teeth on and it introduced the world to one of the best bands on Earth (and beyond,ha ha.)

    Re: Facelift

Easily one of my absolute faves. I like more than Jar of Flies and Dirt.

    Re: Facelift

I still think that "Bleed the Freak" is such an under rated song from this album, I love it and have it in my all time top 5 along with "Would?", "Down in a Hole", "Nutshell"  and  "Angry Chair"

Great album, Layne's voice is sooooo powerful, Jeryy is a guitar wizard and the rhythm section is super tight.

    Cheers

    Re: Facelift

I agree with Bleed the Freak. One of my favorite songs. The part where the whispers come in and he screams "so fucking tired" gives me chills. I love how straight-forward and raw this album is.

    Re: Facelift

i love this album more now than ever. it has always been my least foavorite but i'd have to say it's right up there w/ dirt now. i've listened to this cd more than any of the other over the past few years. aint like that and love hate love are still 2 of my favorite songs ever....and despite it's airplay man in the box is one of those few songs that i never get tired of.

    Re: Facelift

Layne's voice on Love, Hate, Love is so powerful.   My favorite song off of Facelift is "Sunshine."  I listen to it almost everyday.

    Re: Facelift

It aint like that is one of the most straightforward kickass riffs ever. I've heard Jerry do it solo as well (taking on guitar and lead vocals) and he actually sings it fantastically also. If you wanna check out a cool performance check out the youtube video of Jerry with nickelback doing It aint like that. I was a little weary considering it's...you know...Nickelback, but it was actually a really strong live rendition.

    Re: Facelift

This is the one that started it all. I had never heard hard rock guys using harmonies like Layne and Jerry before. It was so eerie when they combined their voices!  I did not realize until later on that they sang together a lot more than what I had originally thought. There is not a bad song on this record!! Sea Of Sorrow, the third song on this release, is what really drew me to them as a band. I had heard Man In The Box before, but when I heard this album in its entirety, I knew I would be a fan for as long as these guys were around!! A stellar first effort for ANY band.

    Re: Facelift

Layne's vox on this is mind blowing!
Especially Bleed the Freak and Love Hate Love!
It's totally different to their later stuff, but it's equally as good...
this would be my second fave of theirs after Dirt Cool

My god, what an epic album: Love, Hate Love, Sunshine, Sea of Sorrow, Man In the Box, Bleed the Freak, god what a great album.

EDIT: I forgot I Can't Remember! I love the vocals in that song.
