sonnie: QueenOfTheRodeo: davidcantrell:I just love it when people throw the comment out about somebody they think they no ( I DONT KNOW MYSELF BUT I WILL SAY IT ANYWAY BECAUSE THATS WHAT I HEARD SOMEONE SAY) hope you dont guide your life on assumption!!!!!!!!
I agree with that. Like the saying goes, "Don't ASSUME anything... because then you make an ASS out of U and ME" Not only that, but it gives you the false impression of someone or something... I admit, even though this is becoming off topic, I had to comment here. Ya know, since we CAN'T "read" peoples minds; we ALL "assume" things CONSTANTLY.....and don't even realize it.
How often do people say "one thing" and don't mean it but we "assume" they are telling us the truth. How often do people change their minds but we "assume" they will "keep" the same opinion......How often do we "assume" when a person is always "happy" in public; that they are just as happy at home; but may really be "by polar" & could be extremely depressed when they are alone.
Sure, for example, a person's date of birth is a fact. But when it comes to emotions, thoughts, comments, interviews; that stuff can change at any time; fact or fiction & we can only assume, at the time, if it's accurate or not. Even the best source can base their comment on bias or personal belief.....doesn't mean it's the truth......we can only assume or better yet HOPE it's the truth.
Not sure why, but this reminded me of that Rolling Stone article from '96. Even though Layne refused to either confirm or deny his drug use at that time, the interviewer felt the need to point out and mention, for all to read, some marks or scratches on Layne's hands as well as a mark above his eye. It was pretty clear that the interviewer assumed said marks were the result of drug use. Now, how did that interviewer know that those scratches/puncture marks weren't the result of Layne's playing with his cats? And how did he know that the mark on his face wasn't just a big zit? And more importantly, why the need to mention them at all? We had a situation here at work recently that happened to make the news. When I watched it later, I found that they had had most of their "facts" just plain wrong. Without going into detail, other than the fact that one of my coworkers was killed, every single thing they laid out as a "fact" was just plain wrong...not true at all. So yeah, don't believe everything you read. End rant.

Oh my god, there is much to say about that man, about how many hearts
he touched. This is the one and only death in showbiz that I will not
regret. Not only that he was very talented, enthusiastic, had a great
and outstanding voice, but I really believe he was a good person. With
the face of a naive child, and with the voice of fallen angel, he
really tuched my soul.
Music of AIC guided me through tough times in my life, and Layne was a spark in their songs that made me feel better.
His death was horrible, and, unfortunately, expected.
I only hope that AIC wouldn't continue playing and making new albums with the new singer. If they do, they will totally destroy the memory of Layne who was very big part of AIC.
And I will lose respect for Jerry, Mike and Sean, whom I respect so much, as well as their music.

Sub- I love, miss and adore Layne as much as the next guy (or girl), and yeah, he was a huge part of AIC. In a perfect world, he'd still be here singing his heart out. But to say Jerry, Mike and Sean are destroying the memory of Layne and you'd lose respect for them if they went on?? That's pretty harsh. Alice in Chains had four members and three of them are still here. Their lives didn't end. Layne was their friend and it's highly unlikely that these guys would do anything to destroy his memory. It's clear that they love what they do - they've been doing it for almost 20 years. It's a huge part of their lives - making and playing music is their occupation. It's also clear that if Layne would've been up to it, they would've been doing it all along. Why deny these men the respect they very rightfully deserve? It was (and still is) their band too.

Yes, I admit it, it was pretty hursh from me to write those things I wrote. But, I can't imagine AIC without Layne. And AIC for me is not AIC anymore if they produce new albums, cause, theres no replacement for Layne. Sorry, thats my opinion :( I really love all the guys from AIC, and the new singer has a great voice, but..there it is.

I was too young to ever meet Layne, but I went to a show a few weeks back and got to meet the rest of the band, mainly Jerry. They are all such funny, down to earth people that it is easy for one to assume that Layne had to be just the same. When someone touches your soul and saves your life, like I know Layne has done for me, you automatically know the person has to have at least some good. I may still do some things I probably shouldn't when it comes to drugs etc, but I still know that Alice in Chains' music saved me from an even harsher hole to go into. Reading numerous things about Layne and watching alot of their home videos, it is really amazing to know that people still really can be amazingly talented, but not act like they are above anyone else. They have really inspired me to write on my own as well, and their words have helped me to realize that no matter how fucked up you are, you still have something worth being respected within you.
There is no way I could not love Layne as if I knew him well for what he saved me from, and I'm sure that is the same for alot of people. Alice's legacy should live on forever.

Doody206:I've told this one in the past but it bears repeating for the new group of peeps we have here.
I was walking down 45th towards the Ave (University of Washington main street) to grab some food, and from across the ave comes Layne. I think he was in the bong shop across the street. I said hello, he (shockingly) remembered me, and we started walking along shooting the bull.
He asked about some of the guys we both know, and I tell him I'm going to McDonalds to grab some food and invite him along. We get to the door of McDonalds and the place was closed. We both looked around and it wasn't just closed, but it was GONE, as in closed down for good.
We started heading north on the avenue, and he starts cracking these jokes about the McDonalds being closed down. I can't quote him but it was something like this....
"Can you imagine how idiotic the management must have been to get their McDonalds shut down, not just ANY McDonalds, but a McDonalds that sits 1 block from a huge university."
"Did they forget during the training course to tell the new employees to ask the customer if they'd like fries with that?"
"That's it!! None of the employees ask if you'd like fries, and they lost their ass."
"How on earth can a McDonalds close down?"
"What's next?" "7/11's closing down because they forgot to prepare their cheese wiz for the Nacho's?"
"Did Ronald and the Hamburgler steal Chicken Nuggets after everyone went home, and it cut into their bottom line?"
"Did Mayor McCheese divert taxes away and spend it on lavish vacations or possibly hookers?"
....and he went on for like 5 minutes, it was something that would have been the funniest part of any movie, and he did it off the top of his head.
If you ever hear anyone say Layne was a serious guy, tell them you know better. The guy had a sense of humor second to NO ONE.
RIP Layne.... The Earth will never ever be the same....
I can soooo hear him saying that in my mind. That was so funny I started to cry. Thank you for that.
