AIC was one of the many bands thatreally helped through alot of this and last year's shit. I've been going through a lot with my "friends" in my classand I've just had enough, they don't really want me any more and it took me some time realizing that, plus things with my mom and dad are getting worse every day and Layne has been very helpful to me withhis voice and music. He just expressed so much painand frustration and those negativefeelings that he had to give up and that I had to give up. He has helped along with Chuck Schuldiner, who helped me keep up the energy with his music and words. I still identify Layne with how he looked on in the Would? video. It was the first thing I saw/heard of them and although i only heard the last minute and a half, it lefta lasting impressionon me. The sound was just so different from everything else. I can't believe that so little people spoke out on Layne's death. It's just sad how great artists, that really create something unique just pass away into obscurity unnoticed.

Layne helped me thru a death in family last year. I kept testing the feelings that I was getting & never came up short. It's a little lame to most people probably to get into but I want to thank Layne for this help I received. Sorry for all the testing I did with myself to make sure I wasn't nuts. hmm....some things are just strange & unexplainable.

Re: Memories of Layne
I have so many thoughts about Layne on my mind but i cant really translate half of it to words, and Layne could translate anything into words and this was one of his main strenghts! Layne is so awesome, i remember being 9 or something (95 or 96) and listening to Man in the box like for the very first time, and it just grabbed me like no music had did before. It was incredible, i was hooked since that day. I KNEW ALICE IN CHAINS WAS THE BEST BAND I WOULD EVER, EVER LISTEN. I KNEW THAT SINCE THE FIRST DAY, I SWEAR. But somehow i wouldn't accept it, i was like: oh, i'll do more research, and see if this will remain. Then, as the years passed by, i just kept discovering a lot of bands, hearing a lot of good singers and stuff but it was until, like what? a year a go that i really got it: YES, ALICE IN CHAINS REALLY IS A BAND THAT NO ONE, NOTHING CAN TOP. I MEAN, NOTHING NEVER TOUCHED ME DEEPER THAN AIC, MAINLY LAYNE. HIS VOICE IS SO HAUNTING, SO BEATIFUL, im sorry for the caps but its just the way i feel about AIC. i just cant state my feelings without being delighted. Ive been seeing through the years the praise that AIC has been receiving. Specially now, with a lot of known singers doing guest appearences on the shows with Jerry and the boys and recognizing the fire power of this band, but they deserve MORE, MORE AND MORE. They're truly on the same leagues as the legends like Zeppelin, Sabbath, Metallica and even Nirvana (which i do like, but AIC was so much stronger wether u consider the vocals, song-structure, guitars, drums EVERYTHING) and yet, they dont get the same praise, WHY? It's not like it will change the way i feel bout them, never. It makes even more special the all the people that i know that appreciate the work they have done.
I know this thread if mainly bout Layne but i had to write it all. I can't help but think: ALICE IN CHAINS WILL ALWAYS BE THE BEST BAND EVER TO ME. EVER! LAYNE STALEY WILL ALWAYS BE THE BEST SINGER EVER!
Long live AIC!!! Im glad to see this great site running smoothly! GJ guys

I was unfortunate enough to have been born in the mid-80's. I was not quite aware of music in the 90's. I discovered AIC in my teen years and found out why my dad was absolutely in love with them. he was very happy when he saw that i'd discovered them. now we talk about layne's impact, the absolutely incredible voice he had, the impeccable talent of the rest of the guys. it has really done a lot for our relationship. and there is nothing like turning AIC up loud as possible. so now me and my father are going to see them in jersey this friday. it will be his first time. it will be my third. and i have a 4th coming in 2 weeks in massachussets. can't wait. but there is only one layne. and no other singer can compare to what he was, and no other artist can compare to his impact on me and my fathers lives. and im so sure on plenty of others. and he is at peace now.
And you, you use your talent To dig me under And cover me with dirt.

Hey, I'm happy that you and your Dad share a strong bond like that. It's always nice to see that. Enjoy the show, maybe I'll see ya there :)

God I love this thread. I miss Layne. I miss new music. Yea Layne is getting bigger every year. They finally released a poster of him after 10 years. When I went to hot topic it was sold out. yea.... Good thing.

Shannon: Layne Staley emcompassed, hands down, the most distinct male vocal in all of music history. Layne, baby doll...Rest in Peace! Please keep watch over all of your loved ones, and don't ever forget how precious your existence on this planet was to so many people.
Absolutley agreed. As I posted somewhere else, Layne was the best vocalist I've ever heard. Bar none. And I grew up on Plant, Morrison, Daltrey, don't get me wrong...they can all sing, but who but Layne could make you feel him, really FEEL the voice, the message, the angst and anger, the depression and elation...ALL of it...my god, I'm almost crying.....OK, not really...but you get the idea...
