    new material

is anyone else as eager as me to hear new material or is it gonna be ages before any is released with william not being a permanent member of the band (or am i mistaken)? dont get me wrong i love their classic songs and i'd go see them live in the drop of a hat, but after a ten year break im excited about hearing something new whenever that may be. Anyone think this is possible?

I want new stuff too. I hope its possible. AIC is a band that actually made me feel something for the music.  I can't say that for any other band.  I'm still not sure about DuVall.  I would love a record with multiple guest vocalists.  Or maybe Jerry takes on lead and they find some back up somewhere.  That wouldn't be Jerry doing a solo thing because Sean and Mike will be there, too. Which brings us to the case of Boggy Depot.  I thought the writing was way different than the AIC stuff. So come on boys give us a hint! As if they'll actually see this.  A girl can dream.

....it's not so much whether new music is recorded, or who it's recorded with, it's if they ever would get their butts around to actually releasing it into the fans hands....

    Kinda like th Heart/Decades DVD......

I knew that thing would take for fucking ever to release. I even wonder if it ever will come out. I hope they come out with some new stuff, too. I'll be curious as hell, that's for sure.

I would definitely like to hear some new material with William doing lead vox.  I am curious as to the kind of influences he would bring to the mix and what it would sound like.

Don't be too optimistic. Jerry is pushing 40 years old and rock bands always lose it as the years progress (except the Rolling Stones, of course). Just look at Guns 'N' Roses. I'm sure Jerry will do some more solo stuff but i don't reckon he'll record any new AIC. Besides, William has other commitments.

So?  There's always an exception to the rule.  Just because you push 40 doesn't mean you lose your gift or desire for creating more music.  Just because Guns-N-Roses crashed and burned, doesn't mean AIC will.  Yeah, William has always had other commitments but he found the time to do this tour, didn't he?  We're talking about one album, maximum.  As fast as it takes to crank out an album and then do a possible tour supporting it, it would last, what? 6 months at the most?  What's another 6 months out of all the member's lives?

    Re: new material

im sure they are going to release new music. its not like jerry doesnt have any old riffs hidden away from the aic days, or after their third album.  if they are willingto tour this much pretty much out of the blue, make a commercial, come out with essential aic disc, im sure they have plans ahead. tour=money for them, commercial=potential new fans and buyers for essential aic , essential aic=hooked new fans. the next step in the equation is a new album. its almost obvious.  i wouldnt say its a guarentee, but its looks about 80% sure.

Jerry also supposedly had a bunch of solo stuff for a third album, so maybe that will make it on to a new disc.

    Re: new material

I think Jerry, Sean and Mike are in good shape and still in time to move on, but if they really want to move on, the should start a new band, choose a kickass name and hire Duvall or whoever they want. If they decide to move on under the name "Alice In Chains" they'll be dramatically far away from the band they were with Layne.

The Rolling Stones havn't released a decent album since the Seventies and charge crazy ticket prices for a very average live show.Yes most bands "loose" it over the years...but others dont.Look at Pearl Jam,Slayer,REM....all have released relevant albums in their latter years and still thrive...I'd love to hear some new AiC...but it will take ages to come out.I also want more Jerry but i aint holding my breath for that.

Fair point, but thats not what i really meant. I'm talking about the energy thing. Like how the older people get (i mean much older) the more they mellow out. The rolling stones thing was just a reference to the way they act. I think that Jerry's attitude to music post-Alice in Chains albums is a bit more chilled out and i reckon that with a changed songwriter and a new singer, it wouldn't really be anything like the AIC of old. It would kind of be a new band neediing a new name.  I guess it could work though.

"chilled"? Maybe some of DT album has a different angle JC was working out, but I sure don't see it as chilled. I do see there were a lot of moods through the whole thing from mysterious to freaky to disgusting to heavy. In fact, Anger Rising is as heavy as it gets in my opinion. That album is a real roller coaster ride and now that its out of his system, i really wanted to see the direction he was going to go on his next solo. Well that will be a mystery for all of us now. I can really see AIC going into the studio after they get their fill of touring. I think Jerry and the guys could manage a masterpiece with or without william, because Jerry knows how to use who he is working with masterfully. i have no doubts they will move forward and can't wait to see what's next-
