Question, and it's not about Layne's aesthetic, as much as we all love it.....

Did Layne have an accent (beyond American)? Is there such a thing as a "Seattle" accent? His pronunciation of words seems to differ slightly from the other band members, though maybe not Sean..

I've been watching too many Youtube interviews, so it's kinda standing out right now..especially in the Nona Tapes.

With my Aussie accent, I (and the rest of the country) tend to put emphasis on the opposite syllable to most Americans

eg.
My first instinct when saying Jerry's surname is to emphasize the first syllable "CAN-trell" where as Jerry, and every other Seattlite I've heard, emphasizes the latter part, can-TRELL 

Just something I've noticed is all.

When he says "Dang it" in the Nona Tapes when the interviewer asks him if he's happy, he sure does sound like one of those country dudes!!!

I'm so glad you said that! At first I thought it was "C'antrell"...I'd also say "C'ornell" and not "Corn'ell"..I'm not sure whether that has to do with accents tho'...To me they just sound Americans, I dont know the different American accents....Perhaps I can recognise the Texas one, just because it's totally uncompehensible (have I just made that up??? Perhaps!) for me!

I'm curious...c'mon girls...get back to us!!!

I think maybe cuz English is my first (and sadly only) language, I tend to notice the differences between American local accents....plus I had voice training years ago, highlighting on accents...

Ok - another question for Sludge and Tiz, and others, how do you pronounce Demri?

My instinct is to say DEM-ree, but my gut tells me someone from the North West of the US would probably pronounce it de-MAREE

Kristen told me once that the Seattle accent really sounds like the South accent.. Or would it be the Washington accent? I can't remember.. It is somewhere in my inbox but since there's lots of emails, I can't find it. hahaha

I pronounce DEM-ree. hahah It's an odd name, isn't it? I think it's the only person I know with this name. It's beautiful though once we get used to it. :D

Regarding "Staley".. lol That's funny. Because I've always pronounced the "a" like the "a" in "case" for instance. And then Ricky pronounced the "a" different from that.. I'm trying to find a word that matches the sound but I just can't right now.. Damn it! Think!!

I pronounce Staley like you do - big empahsis on the "a" like case.... 

People from Seattle seem to pronounce "seattle" really differntly from everyone else (yeah - I've been you tubing)...like the first "a" is missing altogether (well it seems that way to my Antipodean ears).

I pronounce "Seattle" just like TV's Dr Fraiser Crane (LOL), big emphasis on the SEA....
