Alice in Chains' guitarist Jerry Cantrell solo albums

Since this is the Alice in Chains board,  not everyone might be aware of the fact that AIC guitarist Jerry Cantrell has released 2(or 2,5) solo efforts so far.

~ In '98 'Boggy Depot' was released. Great album.

~ '02 was the year of 'Degradation Trip'. My personal favorite solo album. This was initially released as a 1cd album, despite the fact Jerry had 2 cd's worth of material. Later they released the 'limited edition' 2cd edition Degradation Trip 1+2, they way Jerry wanted it released. If you can find it, buy this 2 disc version, it most certainly wont let you down!

If you want to hear some (new) great music, buy 'em!

to each his own ofcourse. I just felt DT to have a darker atmosphere... I dunno.

But man, just listening to Boggy ... at the moment to Breaks my Back .. this album is incredible.

I just think jerrys music suffered at some points because of his singing (he's good but I think he was still trying to write more to laynes style) if you listen to 31/32 (great song;)) you hear him go a little squeeky when he sings hotel room.

its no secret Layne was the better singer of the two .... but that doesnt mean Jerry isnt a good vocalist in his own right.
But yeah, I guess Jerry has a somewhat more limited voice in comparison to Layne (but who doesnt ;) )

I love Jerry's solo stuff. I favor DT 1 & 2, but I love Boggy Depot as well. It depends on my mood. When I got the double disc, it didn't leave my CD player for a year.

I love both the solo albums. My favourite depends on the mood I'm in.Still though,Jer's singing is quite good,he ain't no frontman,he's a guitarist, but having featured on some of my favourite tracks of all time,I couldn't care less how "bad" some people conceive his voice to be (not anyone here or anything).

Both albums are awesome, Boggy has more of a country/ lighter feel and Degradation Trip has a heavier feel.  Both are great for different reasons and listening to them side by side shows how diverse his talent is. Some personal faves are Solitude, Hurt A Long Time, Devil By His Side, 31/32.

I recently bought the double cd edition of Degredation trip, best buy of 06! For some reason I couldn't find it anywhere in the UK so had to get it from the states. A few of my friends are AIC fans but hardly anyone realise that Jerry has these fantastic albums out! Its a shame because I think some of his songs like 31/32, Solitude, Hurt Along time, my song, Siddhartha, Chemical tribe to name just a few are really fantastic, pure musical genius! I'm in total awe of him at the moment. I had a brief spell earlier on where I just couldnt really get into Boggy depo but it's just grown on me so much But I was in love with Degredation trip as soon as I got it! I gotta say though that I didnt realise he'd done solo stuff until he brought out the anger rising single.....

The lack of promotion for DT is a crime, really. Roadrunner didn't do it justice.

Degradation Trip is one of the most underated albums of all time. The writing is brilliant. Should have recieved alot more recognition. Boggy Depot as well.

Hell yea, Boggy Depot was sooo good. I think 'Settling Down' is one of the best tracks on that album. 'Dickeye' and 'Jesus Hands' as well :)

Boggy Depot is almost as good as any given Chains CD
Thankyou very much, and can I borrow 50 bucks?

Very true. Plus it had all the AIC players anways. I like to consider it what would have been the next AIC disc anyways. Degredation Trip had Robert Trujillo and Mike Boredon, who is a fuckin killer drummer, but he's no Kinney, different feel.
