... I bought Beyond Good & Evil a few years back ...  I saw it laying there and thought I'd give 'em a try ...

Man is that album fantastic! I honestly think that if there are people out there that havent listened to it yet... or knew little about the Cult in general (like me) ... go out and buy it! You wont regret it.

Ofcourse, peopel are going to say how they like Love, Electric or Sonic Temple better ... but to me personally those albums have a bit of an outdated sound haha. Hey, I never heard them before 2001 or so! You cant blame me! And yes ofcourse I like songs like Rain, She Sells Sanctuary etc as well... but BG&E as a whole really is my personal Cult-favorite.

i used to have sonic temple on cassette when i was wee (like 14) and sometimes when i hear fire woman i still get turned on, even though that's like the only cult song anyone knows.

I rate the Cult discs in this order:

Ceremony

Love

Peace (the unreleased gem from 1986)

Electric

The Cult (self-titled "goat" album from 1994)

Sonic Temple

Dreamtime

BG&E

 

With that said, ALL are excellent in their own way. Sonic Temple starts off strong, but ends weak. Ceremony & Love are excellent from beginning to end.

Get the "Pure Cult" DVD too. Superb!!

The DVD was released in 2000.

Pity you missed the band, they're STILL on top of their game.

hmm okay thanks for the info.

And yeah I wouldve loved to see 'em live ... but it was in the same period that I was seeing Alice 3 times... so I guess I just wasnt on the lookout for any other shows in that period. (apart from Tool ... for which I could not get a ticket)

Seen them last night and they blew me away! Those guys rocked their hearts out. Very cool live band!

OMG!  I saw them in 1989 during the Sonic Temple tour. Had front row seats and snuck in a tape recorder. It was painful but I got a pretty good recording of the concert (which I still have).  I also snuck in my camera and got some ok pics( this was before digital cameras and cell phones). Tora Tora and Bonham opened up for them. It was the best!  Ian look sooooooo damn good.

These were the guys that really opened my eyes to music when I was in high school. I still think they're and awsome band and I got to see them last year at The House of Blues in Atlantic City, NJ ... Unbelievable, even if Billy Morrison and Matt Sorum were missing, although they were replaced by Chris Wise and John Tempesta! Billy Duffy is one of my favorite guitarists of all time. He's an extremely tasteful player, much like our boy JC!

the best band around right now,i hope they ll write a new album soon,every cult record is a classic

ceremony is the first disc i ve ever bought,they re an all time band they played al styles really great and ian astbury with billy duffy are the best music couple since layne died and jerry left alone

also, the song Billy and Jerry have/are doing together for an upcoming Camp Freddy album should be interesting... though Id prefer an original track in stead of the Thin Lizzy cover they're doing now.

CAMP FREDDY has been in and out of the recording studio over the past couple of years recording what is expected to eventually be released as the band's debut album. Among the cuts that are set to appear on the effort are "20th Century Boy" (also featuring Steve Jones from THE SEX PISTOLS on lead guitar) and THIN LIZZY's "Jailbreak" (featuring ALICE IN CHAINS guitarist Jerry Cantrell on vocals and Billy Duffy [ex-THE CULT] on lead guitar). Other guest musicians include RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS drummer Chad Smith and singer Macy Gray
