THE SUN SETS FOREVER OVER BLACKWATER PARK

BWP is a definite classic and a must-have, and still considered the band's best work to date by many people. And again, make sure to check out Damnation for the softer side of the band.

    Then get everything else.

    Re: Opeth

I'd recommend Still Life or BWP as a starting point if your new to the band. Imo they're all beyond great, but thats just me. I wanna keep this short and not go off on a tangent about how much I love Opeth. Every cd has its own mood to it and certain ones might not go over well with certain people. I know a few people who like Damnation, but one listen to Morningrise would turn them away.

and with what Rif said, Akerfeldt's inter song banter shit is comical. I love the shit after BWP on the Roundhouse tapes.  Plus, last time I saw them, I briefly remember him having some quiz about the Scorpions inbetween songs. Not sure, i was kinda drunk

    Re: Opeth

    From Opeth.com:

<<"Watershed" is the name of Opeth´s 9th studio observation. The album has just been mixed and mastered by Jens Bogren with M. Åkerfeldt. The album consist of 7 songs and the titles are as follows:

    1. Coil
    2. Heir Apparent
    3. The Lotus Eater
    4. Burden
    5. Porcelain Heart
    6. Hessian Peel
    7. Hex Omega

All the songs have been written by M. Åkerfeldt apart from "Porcelain Heart" which was co-written with Fredrik Åkesson. One additonal track, "Derelict Herds" has also been recorded and this was written by Mikael Åkerfeldt and Per Wiberg. On top of this, 3 cover songs has (sic) been recorded. "Bridge of sighs" from Robin Trower´s 1974 Lp with the same title, "Den ständiga resan" (sung in Swedish) by Marie Fredriksson as well as the classic Alice in Chains song, "Would?".

The album was recorded at Fascination street studios during November 1 and December 13. Some addtional recordings were done between January 3rd and 7th. Produced by Jens Bogren and Mikael Åkerfeldt and Opeth.

Says Mikael Åkerfeldt: "I´ve worked so hard with these songs for quite some time now, I´ve listened to 'em a zillion times. I don't hate them just yet! The album sounds great sonically and I think I can hear us evolving as the record plays on. It is taking us somewhere musically and I don't know where. It's very exciting to say the least! I can't remember having enjoyed a recording this much ever before."

The cover was (as usual) designed by Travis Smith in co-operation with Åkerfeldt. Release date is yet to be confirmed but Roadrunner worldwide will have it out sometime in the Springtime of this year....>>

Holy shit! LOL I've been the victim of a semi-practical joke.

On my primary message board, which is where I cut this article from, there was a guy everyone hated named "Omega Monkey." The moderator banned him and forbid anyone to speak of him there. If you enter the words "Omega Monkey" there, it appears as "Ball-licker Monkey." LOL So that's where that came from. The thought didn't even occur to me.

    D'OH!!!!

    As for this:

    Reebokanonymous:

Holy crap! "Would?"! I can't believe it. Are they gonna put those songs on there? I'm so excited.

...based on past albums, they'll probably release a special edition album with the extra songs and covers on it. Unlike past albums, hopefully the label releases it on the same day as the regular album instead of waiting a few months...causing fans to buy both unnecessarily.

    Re: Opeth

I'm really curious as to what Opeth's take on "Would?" will sound like. I can't imagine they would use death vocals, but even if they did, it would be interesting to hear. It's strange...even though Opeth does a cover here and there, I never would have imagined they'd do an AIC tune. But so far, all the covers they've done have been very loyal to the originals (Iron Maiden, Deep Purple), so I'm not complaining.

Oh man! That is the funniest explanation I've ever heard. I'll remember that until I die.

But yeah, usually I hate cover songs, but Opeth seems like a band that could really pull it off. It just seems like the craziest coincidence that they're covering an AiC tune. It's good to know that they don't just draw from classic rock and death metal. I've heard their cover of "Bridge of Sighs" has some potential, but I've never heard it before. I'm so excited, I'ma go buy "Blackwater Park!"
