Love STP!  For some reason, I always thought Scott would be more likely to "go" than Layne.  Maybe just because he was repeatedly in the news with his arrests, stints in rehab, etc.  Regardless, I'm glad he's on the straight & narrow now.  I only wish Layne could've made it too.

I always thought the same thing actually.
I agree, STP were able to convey pretty much every emotion in there music. There albums sounded just the way they did live too, which sometimes is rare but that band was just so damn tight. I got to see them three times and they were fuckin killer everytime. Such a great band. It's too bad that Weiland screwed everything up. Assuming they went more normal and didn't keep getting so mellow like they did with the last album, they would still probably be at the top of there game.

Another band that didn't get it's due. When Plush was released everyone was saying, "They're trying to be Pearl Jam". One of those bands that seemed to change their sound from album to album. Fave songs are Crackerman and Still Remains. "If you should die before me, ask if you can bring a friend". Always loved that lyric. Wasn't too impressed with Shangri-la de da, though.

That's a beautiful, heartfelt line from "Still Remains."

In regards to SLDD: "Wonderful", "Dumb Love", and "Coma" were all excellent songs. I suppose it has to grow on you!

I so envy those of you who say you got to see STP in action! They made beautiful music and one thing about them that was like AIC was how they made a vaiety of surprisingly different types of music, not fitting a single mold. poetic, thoughtful music with a twist-

They really did put on a great show. I feel privileged that I got to see them a few times.

Anyone have the limited edition of Thank You. There is a DVD included that has ALL the videos as well as some live stuff. Great stuff. Seeing them doing Dead And Bloated live was great. And you can see how much Wieland deteriotes due to his drug use. He has some meat on his bones in the old days.

I loved STP, but now looking back on them, I think the only reason almost everyone liked them was because they were complete rip offs of every grunge band out there. I listen to them and I can hear the Alice in Chains in them. I can hear the Pearl Jam in them. I can even hear Nirvana in them. Combine those 3 bands into a sound and you get STP. Who wouldnt like them? I sure couldnt resist.

Out of sheer and utter curiosity, which songs did you think were AICish?

I always thought they sounded a bit like Pearl Jam, mostly because of the baritone that Weiland had to his voice sometimes when he sang, but that was about it.
