MemoryLayne: it's "monaten" vier monaten Ich habe Deutsch für 14 jahren gelernt. I attended a german school my whole life ! Since I was 4 years old and until I was 18.
Thanks, I'll remember it, I think... I'm jealous of you, I like German, I wish I'd had a chance to take it before. Es ist sehr interessant.

well they certainly are more complicated than English. But the present perfect for example is pretty much the same structure. Have/be + the verb, except the verb changes yet again. Example Ich bin (present)
Ich war (past tense)
ich bin gewesen (present perfect) Ich sehe (I see)
ich sah ich habe gesehen when the verb implies motion, you normally use "sein" instead of "haben" for the present perfect. Well that's just so you get an idea, there's more to explain lol.

irregular verbs are a pain!! I advice you to look up a list online or something... those are complicated. And there are many of them! But what I just told you goes for all verbs... but see you can't think "oh so the past/present perfect I just gotta add the "ge-" before the verb" cause that doesn't always apply, since irregular verbs change differently. There's no pattern to follow, you just gotta learn them all by heart, which is what i had to do at school for 12 years
Example: this is regular, sorta.
ich traume (I dream) ich träumte ich habe geträumt this is irregular ich esse (I eat)
ich aß ich habe gegessen

well trinken is a regular one =) ich trinke ich trinkte ich habe getrunken the only patterns you can follow are the endings... but they even aren't the same all the times, there are exceptions too lol. like ich usually finishes with an e; du with st; er/sie with t, etc. Anyway, you can ask me stuff along the way... i could sit here for days trying to teach you everything lol. I have patience, but not that much
