Cantrell's Blue Dress checker board pattern

Does anyone know the story behind the "checker board" pattern on Canterll's #1 G&L blus dress? Since it's all faded and pealing away he must have applied it himself and not G&L - anyone know where it's from? What it's actually of? I have to say that out off all the guitars with images or designs on them, it's the most tasteful desgn out there.

It's been a while since I have seen the guitar or a close up picture of it. But I know that the grid is actually the remnants from a sticker sheet. I want to say it was a Mr. Yuck sticker sheet, and that there are/were some Mr Yucks on it as well.
That's how you become great, man, hang your balls out there.

That's awesome, thanks. I never thought about "it" being the negative of the sticker sheet, but looking at it now it makes sense.
