    The Black Crowes

Here is a bizarre Saturday night for me--

Our best friends LOVE the Black Crowes--seen them 50 plus times and travel all over to see them.  Everytime we hang out, they are playing them.  I love some of the jams, but Chris' vox annoy me after awhile.   I have seen them live a few times, but it has been about 10 yrs.  They just aren't my thing.

So they travel 4 hours to hang for the weekend and to see them at a casino 30 minutes from our house.  But we still weren't going to go because tix were $55. because of the casino--Eh--I'll just stay home and watch the kids-

Somehow they talked us into going about 4 hours before the show started--my husband was like--"Let's just watch the bass player--how bad can it be?"--somehow we lined up a babysitter at the last minute.  Stuff like that never happens to us. . . .

The show is reserved seating, and this isn't Alice or anything, so there is no pressure to get up front.  So, we just relaxed and partied HARD on the ride up--NO KIDS!!!!!  Easy drive to the venue--great parking--we walk in completely buzzed---very little security--No opener!!   (I hate most openers)--so we just keep moving up--and we freaking end up in the front--DIRECTLY in front of Chris and Rich!!!!  I could have touched them ALL NIGHT!

And they ROCKED the house!!!  Luther Dickinson ROCKS!!  Very high quality music--trancy jams--awesome riffs--

Very mellow OLD stoner crowd--Cool Party!!!--Some dude actually INVITED me to the front row beside him--I am in the front row and never even get pushed or shoved a bit---What an awesome way to celebrate my friend's 40th!! Party!!! Music Beer

And I am totally crushing on Sven, the bass player--

    AND ~

I am now a Black Crowes fan!!!!

Right on!  That sounds like a fun night - I love them.

Did they play any of the old songs?

    Glad you had fun!

    Yes

I totally missed this thread-always liked the Crowes, some of you might remember "Princess" from some of the older boards (don't think she's ever posted here?).  She and I went to see them at an incredible outdoor amphitheater in Santa Fe last summer-beautiful night, great music...

In the end we are what we pretend to be...

    Re: The Black Crowes

No bare feet. . .but awesome BOOTS!!

All 3 guitarists + Chris-- beards!!  Party!!! Beer

I love the way Chris danced--and that little closed eyed satisfied smile he does--Wink

I also loved when he played harmonica that he wrapped his finger around his nose--I could picture him as a boy sucking his thumb that way.

My friend adores Rich, but he wasn't fun for me to watch.  He looked pissed off the whole time.  Maybe he wasn't happy to leave Amsterdam.

Such a great band! I like the laid back feel.

Too bad about Chris and Kate. Have you ever heard the story of how they named their first little boy?

When she was pregnant and on tour with them, the baby would go crazy kicking when they played a song Rider or had the word Rider in it. Or something. I read this once and thought it was neat.

    Re: The Black Crowes

He has r R r  (for Ryder Russell Robinson) on his forearm.  My favorite tattoo of his is the little moon and star on his thumb.  I told my hubby on the way home that I wanted one now and he looked at me like I had 3 heads.  Being in the front row scrambles my brain a bit. . . .

    WOOHOO!!!  Party!!!

    Eek

I am sure it looks cool, but I am so needlephobic that I can't give blood--I feel guilty about that too--

My friend just sent me this in an attempt to persuade me to go to Pgh to see them in August--personally I think he needs some of his brother's second hand good vibe--Cool

    Re: The Black Crowes

They're coming to a small venue near my house, The Hampton Beach Casino, I am debating whether to go or not, I saw them about 13 years ago and wasn't too impressed, but it was a big huge venue only about 1/2 full.

    Re: The Black Crowes

I doubt you'd be disappointed this time, goldie.  They're definitely a small venue type band... their sound didn't carry well the last time I saw them at a huge outdoor event...

I'd love to see them in a small club.....
