    Nirvana/Foo Fighters

Okay we all know the tragic story of Kurt and Nirvana, whatever.  Who out there thinks that had Kurt lived, we would still have the Foo Fighters?

Think about this, Kurt was pissed off with the music industry.  He wanted out.  Maybe not necessarily out of music altogether but definitely the spotlight.  There are rumors he was going to leave Nirvana and play guitar for Hole.

Had he lived, I believe he would've stayed with Nirvana for one more album.  One primarily headed by Dave Grohl.  The Foo Fighters' first album would've been Kurts last with Nirvana.  The record might be a little different than it currently is with Kurt writing some of the tunes but essentially its a Nirvana album anyways.  The lyrics are just a bit more Krist than Kurt.

"The Color And The Shape" would never have been produced since it was basically about Dave's feeling towards Kurts death and voila, we are now left with a couple lineup changes and the "new" Nirvana.

Dave Grohl was very much behind what Nirvana had become in In Utero and i think Kurt would've simply stepped aside and let Dave take over.

    Any thoughts?  Anyone?

I think Foo Fighters are better. At least those first three FF albums anyways. I can't stand One By One. ::shudders:: It literally gives me a headache. I think that Dave is a better songwriter and musician personally. -matt

If Kurt had lived, yes, there probably would have been one more album for Nirvana. Consisting of the songs "Sappy", "Do Re Mi" , "Nobody Knows That I'm New Wave", "Opinion" and "You Know You're Right" as well as some others.

But, as to saying that the first Foo Fighters album would have been Nirvana's last? No. Well, not in it's completed form. Hell, the song "I'll Stick Around" would never have surfaced.

Both great bands; and both great musicians.

Except for the fact that Dave Grohl can't sing for shit. and NO there wouldnt have been another Nirvana album. The band was already broken up. Dave Grohl said it himself. They might have gotten back together at a later time, but as of then, they were broken up.

uhh MTV Unplugged anyone??? Have you heard Dave live? The guy sounds like he's croaking. Not to mention the fact that since he's singing so bad, he has to practically whisper everything just to give it a soft feel. If he didnt talk softly his voice would sound like shit. And sorry but Nirvana is way better. Who do you hear on the radio these days? Nirvana. Foo Fighters will be forgetten way before Nirvana is.

Only because MTV turned Kurt into a martyr. Back in the day Nirvana wasn't near as big as Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, and Smashing Pumpkins were. They didn't get like friggin huge till Kurt did himself in.

I don't know about what the music scene was like where you were "back in the day" but Nirvava was WAY bigger than all of those bands at the time when I grew up.  None of those other bands ever got a sniff before "Teen Spirit" hit (ugh) mainstream radio and Nirvana never looked back from that point on.  Not to disrespect  Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, and Smashing Pumpkins, they compose my list of favorite bands.  They just were never ever "as big" as Nirvana was.

...really now...then uhm, exactly why were those other bands playing amphitheatres and stadiums while nirvana was still doing primarily clubs...and don't say nirvana didn't want to step it up because it was known that kurt wanted to be big...he just wasn't ready for all the things that came with it. shame shame.

    Check it out, Matt, http://www.livenirvana.com/tourhistory/index.html

Now i'm not too sure of some of the European spots but as far as North American ones, I recognize the names of all of the major Hockey/Basketball arenas.  Granted Nirvana played primarily in the smaller venues and festivals but that was by choice.

Kurts' (and tribe) disdain for  the arrogance of the "Arena Rock Crowd" was well known as well as the fact that they were big enough they could choose when and where they went, not necessarily follow an industry laid out tour plan.

wtf. Smells Like Teen Spirit put all the other grunge bands out on the map. PJ, Soundgarden, and Smashing Pumpkins would never have gotten as big as they were if it wasnt for Nirvana. and excuse me, but Nirvana was the biggest band in the world before Kurt died. After he died they still were the biggest band in the world. It was on every damn news station. If they werent the biggest band in the world, the death wouldnt have been so importand. Being that it came when they were on top, meant it got more publicity. And if they wernt so popular today, "You Know You're Right" wouldnt have caused such a commotion it did when it got leaked.

If Nirvana werent so big as they was, would the other Saettle Bands never have been so big as they did..! Nirvana was very importand, and Nirvana made more better Music than Foo Fighters do..! But I Don't Think that Nirvana Would make more music even though Kurt still was alive..!

    And Fuck I can't spell :D

I still think Nirvana is fucking overrated and Dave grohl is a better musician than Kurt. And remember I said "musician". Kurt was the artist, but Dave was the musician. And I think Kurt was really a sloppy musician.

    Re: Nirvana/Foo Fighters

I LOVED Nirvana - they meant the world to me and when Kurt died, I felt we'd lost our generation's John Lennon.

In my opinion what set them apart form all the other "grunge" bands of the nineties was Kurts way of connecting with all those kids who had been made to feel like shit for being different from the "in crowd"  And those kids more than often outweigh the number of cool kids around school.  Plus the fact he had the ability to write catch melodies you couldn't get out of your head.  His music gave us release from the pent up anger and frustration we were carrying around - he simply helped.

I doubt very much there would've another Nirvana album, I think Kurt's "suicide note" was a retirement letter to his fans - but hey we all know those rumours - and so yes Foo Fighters would've been born, afterall Dave had recorded most of those songs whilst in the studio waiting for Kurt to turn up.

I for one am more than happy that Foo Fighters are still going - I've had a monumental crush on Dave Grohl since I was 16 (despite the fact he apparently looks like a monkey!?!?) so I've had another 12 years to fawn over him.

Foos are a kickass live group, Reading last year was amazing, but after watching them play to 85,000 people in Hyde Park I realised that I hated the fact that they're so popular now - I much prefer the sweaty club gigs over the "arena rock" aspect, just one opinion I shared with Kurt....

In summation Nirvana were the biggest out of the "grunge" bands.  Whilst the AIC & Soundgardens were established already, theirs was not the name upon every teenagers lips, the album on repeat in every teenagers CD players and image on every teenagers wall in 1992 - that was Nirvana.

And there is absolutely no disrespect meant here to Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden etc. because whilst Nirvana saved my life when I was 17, those bands have shaped the person I am today too, just in a different more subtle way.

What do you think about the Get Born Again movie?
    Jerry: Yes. It’s fucking horseshit.

The first time I heard the Foo Fighters the first thing I said was "You've got to be fucking kidding me."
