I've got some Slayer songs onmy PC and it's quite good, but what I've heard is that they have not done a lot of progression in their career.
OK I'm gonna get bashed for this one: I never really liked Slayer as much as the other thrash bands. OK Reign In Blood is really brutal and all but when I compare it to Master oF Puppets or Rust In Peace, I personally think Slayer is shred to pieces. The musicianship is just so much better onthose albums and even if they aren't as brutal, there are still brutal albums out there that are better like "Human" by Death.
And then the other albums all sound abit the same, there is some progression, but if you take South Of Heaven, that song is to me a bit like a longer, slower version of Raining Blood.
Andthen Idon'treally like the image that Slayer tries to put forth, especially Kerry King, doing all that macho metalhead stuff, tryingto be brutal as hell and everything. I got news for you: Take a guitarist like Chuck Schuldiner(RIP) and look what he has done and what he was like. Every album was a definitive progression. No 2 albums sound the same and he was just the nicest guy around. Which of course doesn't mean he can't write sick riffs and really touching melodies. Plus he's a way betzter guitarist than Hanneman and King put together.
