    Re: Slayer

I'm glad they've stuck to their Thrash roots...sure it gets samey after a while but at least they didn't go the way of Metallica and try and reinvent themselves as an Alt Rock band...*shudders*

Saw them with Bodom.   Sure did get my Thrash/Death metal serving that day.  Definitely one of the best live metal bands.  Christ Illusion is an excellent work by an excellent band and should be picked up by any metal head.

    Re: Slayer

I didn't know the new album was already released? The coverart is a bit crappy though, in comparison to "South of Heaven"...

Slayer are great at what they do and have stuck by it for over almost 25years. I guess that makes up for alot of respect.

Going to see them live in November for the third time, it's going to be great, this band doesn't know how to dissapoint in my eyes...

Eh, slayer's OK somtimes. It seems like they just make a few kinda cool guitar parts but that's about it. And they pretty much have released the same album over and over again.

    Re: Slayer

"Show No Mercy" is nowhere near the same as "God Hates Us All", the other albums can be clearly seperated as well "South of Heaven" is definatly a whole lot more slow paced than for example "Reign in Blood"...

I think Slayer explored different ways in a subtle manner, they definatly evolved; only their lyrics have always followed the same path, but, in this genre, isn't important as the blasting drums and guitars...I guess...

    Re: Slayer

I've got some Slayer songs onmy PC and it's quite good, but what I've heard is that they have not done a lot of progression in their career.

OK I'm gonna get bashed for this one: I never really liked Slayer as much as the other thrash bands. OK Reign In Blood is really brutal and all but when I compare it to Master oF Puppets or Rust In Peace, I personally think Slayer is shred to pieces. The musicianship is just so much better onthose albums and even if they aren't as brutal, there are still brutal albums out there that are better like "Human" by Death.

And then the other albums all sound abit the same, there is some progression, but if you take South Of Heaven, that song is to me a bit like a longer, slower version of Raining Blood.

Andthen Idon'treally like the image that Slayer tries to put forth, especially Kerry King, doing all that macho metalhead stuff, tryingto be brutal as hell and everything. I got news for you: Take a guitarist like Chuck Schuldiner(RIP) and look what he has done and what he was like. Every album was a definitive progression. No 2 albums sound the same and he was just the nicest guy around. Which of course doesn't mean he can't write sick riffs and really touching melodies. Plus he's a way betzter guitarist than Hanneman and King put together.

    Re: Slayer

Slayer is definately one of the best metal bands of all time, and also one of the most unique.   Reign in Blood is one of the most classic and respected albums of all time amongst the metal world.

I personally feel that their album "Divine Intervention" was their best album though, by far....and the pinnicle of their career.

All the albums preceeding these were great, but "diabolus in musica" was a bit lame and then "God Hates Us All" was a huge letdown, are there any older slayer fans that would agree with this? I hopetheir new album kicks ass

One of my most prized possessions is my copy of "diabolus" which i got signed by all four members of the band, i was totally in shock at the time i met them and couldn't really say anything coherent to them though.

At least Lombardo's back. He is the sh*t. Out of ll the thrash drummers he's one of the most creative drummers out there.
