I might get flamed for this, no pun intended for the two things that I'm about to say, but my brother had a good point when he said they should have replaced one gay guy with another and asked George Michael to sing for them. If you've seen him on that Freddie Mercury tribute show, you know he did a damn good job, and did a sick job fronting the band.

While I totally see where you're coming from and that George Michael is an apt fit for the band... it wouldn't work. If you think people are comparing Paul to Freddie now, imagine how much worse it would be with George Michael in place? He's too similar vocally to Freddie - I'd rather have someone who is completely different rather than a literal replacement.
I will agree though with what you said about the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert - "Somebody To Love" was electrifying!
