    Mansfield, MA (Tweeter Center) 8.14.07

What a gorgeous night at the Tweeter Center! I love that place. The guys were great tonight, despite some technical difficulties. Poor Jerry's sound kept cutting out every time he went for a solo! A lot of the people I talked to came for AIC and not Velvet Revolver... Slash who??

Up until today I thought Ticketmaster was evil with all of their fees on top of fees, but now I LOVE TICKETMASTER for hooking me up with killer seats. They became available at the last minute... 3rd row, and because of the big diagonal aisle there was NOTHING in front of us so it was practically like front row. That's what I get for being too broke to buy my tickets until a couple days before the show? Fucking amazing!

Up close I noticed how skinny William is... he's a freaking toothpick! I could snap him in half. But I must admit I spent the whole time staring at Jerry. Someone give him the message: I WANT TO HAVE HIS BABIES.

Hahaha... anyway, great show tonight. Of course I wish it were twice as long, and that they didn't have to play it down just for the sake of letting VR take the headlining spotlight. I hope they blow us all away with a new album and go on their own tour complete with acoustic sets at every show! I'd pay so much money for that it's not even funny. Really. Like I overdrew my checking account just to buy tonight's tickets. But it was so worth it. :o)

Oh and thanks to the blonde Cali chick who bought me a beer, I can't remember your name! Tweeter Center's policy of not selling alchohol to anyone under 25 is just... ***. I'm turning 25 in less than a week and the damn old lady wouldn't serve me. Can you believe that?

    Mansfield, MA show 8/14/07

I know the band was up against some technical difficulties early on in their set (did someone forget to change the battery in Jerry's wireless?) but I noticed that William's guitar was not playing through the house system. At first I assumed there was some issue that I wasn't aware of until I saw him walk up to his cab and get feedback from it. I was close enough to the stage that I could hear the stage volume but it still wasn't coming through the house. Lo and behold his cab wasn't mic'd. At least the cab that he was getting feedback from wasn't mic'd. I noticed a mic'd bass cab, 2 mic'd guitar cabs behind Jerry. No mic on William's. Way to go, road crew.

Hopefully they come back soon with more prepared staff and sound men.  The set was good but couldn't compete with the Boston, Mansfield and Providence shows I saw last year for this reason alone. Also, AIC shouldn't be opening for anyone. I get the idea of expanding their audience but these guys are headlining quality across the board. Unless we're talking about opening for the Rolling Stones or something. VR was good but they're no AIC.

Besides the lady that wouldn't give you a drink because of that venue's policy at least you had a wonderful time seeing AIC.

    What About Layne???

I just came home from the Manfield Ma show. i must say the guys were unbelievable. I was sec 2 floor seats. I was wearing a Layne tribute shirt i had made and it was his pic on the front and on the back it said "we'll never forget you Layne." i was determined i would get the guys to sign it some how. so after alice was done i went up to a bouncer and asked him if he could get me back stage.. he siad he couldn't of course Sad but that i could go to the back stage door and see what's going on there. so i did. there was a women whom i did not get her name but i was going to leave after i got shot down again and this woman said to me jerry will come out eventually don't worry. so i stayed there through almost an hour of velvet revolvers set. I saw Sean Kinney come out twice. i so wanted to ask him to sign my shirt but he seemed like he didn't really want to be bothered and i respected that. I understand they deal with it all the time. and if i did ask him he probably would have but i was not sure so i chickened out. so i waited and waited and low and behold who comes out in a red sox baseball hat. JERRY! the woman who was there who had told me to stay went up to him and let him see my shirt. I was pretty drunk and so scared he was going to take off. So I went up and said that i had made a Layne tribute shirt and if he could sign. it he was cool and did sign it for me. I then gave him a big hug which i do not think he expected but i did. he then went out to where the sound guy was running sound and watched some of velvets show. I was on cloud nine.

Ok now the real point of all this. Great night, thank you Jerry for signing my shirt when you didn't have to. But, No Layne tribute at all?? nothing not even a mention of his name. no film of pic's of him in the back to a song or anything. what the f*&^%?!  That was a disappointment. Layne was a big part of why you guys got where you did. i think you should make it a point to at least do a little tribute in his honor if you are out touring with the name Alice in Chains which he even named. William does a great job and I'm happy he's there so we can all hear these songs again. But to not do any tribute to him to me anyway, is not right. I must say I'm surprised of the guys in AIC  for not doing that. Not even a mention of him during songs. Nothing. I understand they did a tribute to him in the beginning of the show last tour. they should have kept that going for this tour as well. would have been nice to feel his spirit there. But us true fans still felt his presence, and we did not forget you Layne...

    Re: Mansfield, MA 8-14

Great show other than the few power outages. What is up with all the techs wearing the masks while they were setting up the stage, maybe if they took them off they would see what the hell they are doing.Overall they sounded good from where i was sitting (sec 2 row s) just wish there could have been more.It was cool seeing Jerry put the red sox cap on for a song, and Mike wearing the red sox jersey.I'd say junkhead was a highpoint for me.As far as Velvet Revolver,Scott Weiland is worth going just to watch,i need some of whatever he is on.The old GNR and STP classics were good,i got bored with their original stuff.

Set list (what i can remember)

    1. again
    2. grind
    3. we die young
    4. them bones
    5. down in a hole
    6. junkhead
    7. rain when i die
    8. man in the box
    9. would
    10. rooster

    Re: Mansfield, MA 8-14

Glad you guys had a great time despite the technical hitches.  I'm hoping to make it to a Cali show or 2 myself if we ever get our arses into gear and book some flights!

The band actually make the techs wear those costumes y'know.  Last year Tavis was Spiderman, I'm intrigued to know what they are this year, can you remember Lane?

What do you think about the Get Born Again movie?
    Jerry: Yes. It’s fucking horseshit.

    Re: Mansfield, MA 8-14

All I can say is WOW!  What a show.  I agree those AIC techs w/the Nacho Libre style Mexican wrestling masks needed to pull their heads out of asses, shouldn't they know how to do this stuff?  It sucked when the sound went out for a second or two a few times, Jerry looked pissed and commented "we don't have enough power".  The Montreal people said there were tech difficulties also, get it right!  Plus they weren't as loud as VR, which I would have liked.  William at one point said "we're gonna try out something new" I was stoked thinking they were gonna rip into something they'd been working on, and then Man in the Box, ha ha got us guys!  The place was about 2/3 full I'm guessing, alot of people seemed like they were there for Alice.  I left about half through the VR set, and saw alot of people leaving too.  I had enough and had 2 hrs home.  I liked the STP and GnR stuff they played, and Slash wailed, but I'm not a big VR fan anyways.  Scott Weiland gave props to AIC when they came on and the crowd went mental.  It was worth it to see Scott being his crazy self doing his gyrations on stage, what is he on??

Every Alice song--the crowd singing along, good vibes throughout, and the guys seemed happy to be there and see us.  Set not long enough!!  Looking forward to them headlining so I can get much more.

    Re: Mansfield, MA 8-14

They also played "Angry Chair" which was the highlight for me - Greatest rock song ever written IMHO! AWESOME show with the band and Jerry getting the love they deserve. VR was great too and the STP/GNR stuff ROCKED!

    Re: Mansfield, MA 8-14

The show was awesome. William sounded the best yet out of all the shows I have seen. Wow, has he improved since their first show in Atlantic City with Heart. I wish they could have played a bit longer but I was happy with their performance. Velvet Revolver was awesome too. Scott Weiland is crazy and super skinny lol. I couldn't have been more happy when they played old STP songs. Hey I was in section 2 row s too?? I may have seen you there. What seats??

    Re: What About Layne???

Last year when they did their headlining tour..they did a really beautiful tribute to Layne. My guess would be that they didnt do it because they weren't headlining..its not really their tour..and they did the tribute thing the last time around. I dont know..I understand what your saying though. I didnt expect it this time around. And honestly I dont ever expect it again.
    I hate everything about you.

Oh, forgot to mention that it only applies to people with out of state licenses. If you're from MA and you're 21 you're fine. Or else you found a really nice vendor to serve you :o)
