Tinley Park- Chicago (First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre) 8.28.07
Great show. Alice's set was way too short. A whoppin 45 minutes! 50 minutes if you include the "throwing guitar picks time." I've noticed their set gets shorter and shorter on every review (even though they're playing the same number of songs???? me confused). They sounded great though and the setlist wasn't too bad. I would've liked to have heard "Junkhead," but oh well. I've got tickets to the acoustic show at the Rave on Friday too, so hopefully that will make up for it. And the setlist: - Again
- Grind
- We Die Young
- Them Bones
- Dam That River
- Rain When I Die (guitarist from Kill Hannah helped although I'm not sure why)
- Nutshell
- It Ain't Like That
- Man in the Box
- Would?
- Rooster
This show would've been a lot cooler if it wasn't for the lazy crowd. From previous reviews it sounded like more people were going for Alice, but the Chicago show seemed to be all about Velvet Revolver. They didn't seem to be digging Alice too much. But even during VR, people weren't having as much fun as they should've been. Mostly middle aged dudes standing there sipping their cups of beer (probably leftover burn outs from the G n R days). VR played a pretty good show though. Definitely liked they stage setup. It was quite the light show. The security was a pretty good buzzkill too. I've been to a lot of concerts and these security guards were quite possibly the biggest bunch of douches I've ever seen. Every time a flash went off they would stand up on the front rail of the pit area and point to the person with the camera and shake their heads. It was extremely distracting for those of use that worked to get to the front of the stage to have a security guard blocking your view. I mean, its not like Axl was there. And then during the first couple of songs on VR's set. I threw the remainder of my cup of water up in the air backwards into the pit and this fuckhead starts yelling at me saying "Don't do that again!" Which I found funny because its not like I was holding ten cups of water.... DUH! The other reason it was funny was because the people who were roasting in the pit probably appreciated the cold splash, the band didn't seem to mind seeing that I didn't throw it at them, and I think the only person that was mad about it was the damned security guard!!! Anyway, I'm done. I'll let you all know how the acoustic show is on Friday.

Re: Tinley Park- Chicago (First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre) 8.28.07
Great review Nick and thanks for posting the setlist. BTW, same setlist 3 straight shows (Atlantic City 8/25, Detroit 8/27 and Chicago 8/28) what's up with that? I saw them a few times last week and the crowds were very loud for Alice and I think some of the fans who were there for VR were surprised at how good Alice was. Every show I was at security was also a bunch of douchbags coming up to people and shining flashlights in their faces and making them stop taking pictures. Wish I could go to one of the Acoustic shows too but none at near me. Good luck and enjoy the show on Friday.

Hey! I resemble that remark! haha Great review - thanks for sharing!! I find it so strange that they cut out two of their biggest commercial hits, No Excuses and DIAH..... Not complaining, I love that they're mixing it up and I also know that less than one hour just isn't enough. Just makes me go hmm....................

Hey! I’m one of those middle aged guys from last night but I tell you what… I rocked my ass off ! What a superb performance! AIC played some very vocally challenging cuts from a daunting catalogue of songs. My wife and I had chills listening to Jerry’s raunchy spine cutting guitar tone as well the rhythm section’s pulsating dead on time groove. What an absolutely awesome treat it is to once again hear these songs. I haven’t lost my mind like that during a performance in a long time. I’m a long time musician playing the club circuit here in the Chicago area and I’m not easily won over. I went to the show last night to see AIC specifically and I was not disappointed. I saw Velvet Revolver a few months back when they played the Riviera. They’re a great band but they didn’t tear into my soul the way Alice in Chains did. I WANT MORE! The set could have went on forever, it was a bit short. Maybe the fact it ended when it did was a good thing.. I totally blew up my voice singing along. BRAVO!!

Re: Tinley Park- Chicago (First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre) 8.28.07
Working and Hanging with Alice In Chains and Velvet Revolver (Guns and Roses really)
I was in Tinley Park IL at one gosh darn hot outdoor venue that seats 29,000 for the full moon (lunar eclipse still looming from 4 am)---I think it was sold out! It has changed names every year so I call it World Music theater but it's some banks name now.....It was the first time I was on THAT stage for a super huge show and I had a blast! Lots more pix and really really good movies to come! My sweet client and friend Mike Inez hooked me up rock n roll style! Ha, except my pass didn't work!!! Ironically got the pass paper at the end of the night....But everytime I was being turned away from the stage or dressing room, an angel appeared~Velvet's manager got a treatment from me, saw this and yelled to all the guards "Pay attention, she's got carte blanche-get her the right pass", I never did get it...but didn't need it. I wanted to view AIC from the side of the stage, and got turned away and turned around to head for my seat (which I never did see) and the band was there and said "Oh no she's with us" and went on stage on Mike's side and hid behind some lighting or display-It was black on my side! Hell Yeah! 2 of the videos I made, have Mike asking me if I'm having fun and do I need anything while he's rockin' ! Ha what a good man!
The meet and greet for Velvet Revolver (one of the pictures I'll post) in which I was gonna slip in and gets some autographs and group pix, i got whisked away behind the chairs of the rockers (Slash, man!) to massage William from AIC right before he hit the stage.....How Rock and Roll!
and yes it does beat these guys up?! It's a not a luxury, PURE NECESSITY!

I hope they play it aint like that when they come here. I am also afraid that the crowd in Tampa will be more VR fans then Alice Fans. BUT they better play RWID..how can you have an alice show and not play that song????
I hate everything about you.

Re: Tinley Park- Chicago (First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre) 8.28.07
Great show! I must admit, there was a part of me that actually considered not going to this show because of the long drive (nearly four hours). But after Monday’s show, I knew I would be kicking myself for months if I missed it. So I made the trip, and it was totally worth it! Where I was, people were really into Alice In Chains, although I would agree they weren't quite as crazy for them as the crowd the night before. The guys (once again) had so much energy on stage. They were amazing to watch. This time I let my hair down for the whole show. “Rain When I Die” was incredible, definitely the highlight of my night. It’s one of my favorites, and they had one of Kill Hannah’s guitarists come out and play that song with them (I think he was introduced as “Johnny,” but I don’t know any of the people in that band so I can’t say for sure…). "Nutshell" was amazing, "It Ain't Like That" was amazing, "Grind" was amazing... For “Rooster,” they ran the music video footage on the screen behind them, with some stuff from the current war and politicians thrown in. The audience sang the last “Ooos” of “Rooster.” Before they left the stage, the guys handed out picks and drumsticks, plus Sean tossed a drum head out into the audience like a frisbee (not in my direction, though, sniffle sniffle). Once again, I left after Alice In Chains played. I had a 3.5 hour drive home to make, and it was already 10 pm my time when I left (it was 9 local time). Luckily, the traffic wasn’t bad going home (there’s usually a lot less traffic that time of night), so the trip went slightly faster than I expected. And like I said, the drive was totally worth it. The show was incredible!

p.s. For not being the headliners, William got this crowd rockin' especially on "Rain When I Die"!

Thanks-I had fun and so did the boys! It's Velvet's tour so the short set is all they can do! I too, love the picture of Mike looking with a big grin! Best shot of the night! It's hard to shoot under all the flashing light so i got lucky!
Ps-That's Big Val's job-to be intense and READY!

Re: Tinley Park- Chicago (First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre) 8.28.07
I was at the show last Tues and they had this awesome graphic up, I think it was during We Die Young or Them Bones, looking somewhat like a flame. Is it from something or theirs', or was it just some random graphic? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
