    AiC Search Bar

I need this explained further to me. How exactly does this work? Let's just put this in terms of right now- I have a report on the Russian Revolution I have to do, and I'm searching like crazy to find a bunch of stuff that isn't saying the exact same thing. I would be gaining "money" to buy stuff on the site with? Assuming this will have nothing to do with age (hell, my dad likes the band, and is, um, interested in history), could I/he "buy" the stuff it says like autographs and all with this "money"? What are the prices of everything- am I going to be searching for years to get anything, or is this a few months type plan? I'd like a little more about how this works...

I also need- if possible- another place to download it from, because it's stopping partway through (it's probably my internet, not a real problem), I've tried innumerable times and it hasn't worked yet... MegaUpload or something would be cool, if someone on here wants to do me a favor

    Re: AiC Search Bar

I found the "How it Works" or whatever link, so now I feel like an idiot, but I still have more questions

I checked the privacy policy (because I'm really reluctant to put my address and full name on the internet, which is totally understandable), and I'm not liking all of the third party stuff. I trust this site. I don't feel like AiC.com is going to do anything harmful. But I'd really like to know what that all meant, since it's through another site. I'm sure most privacy policies say that sort of thing, and the name and address are to ship whatever I win, but... I'm just curious if I'm opening myself up for some major spammage or virus loading

I use Mozilla Firefox so I didn't install the entire search bar that is for IE.  I installed only the plugin for the little search box...

    Safer.

When you download that toolbar you won't be uploading any viruses or adwares/spyware programs or anything like that; you're just getting the toolbar. The Search & Win people also won't sell your email address so you don't need to worry about spam from third parties.

However, I can completely understand why you're cautious about downloading strange programs so if you want, just bookmark the Search and Win page (or set it as your homepage) and use that instead of downloading the toolbar.

    Re: AiC Search Bar

Are the guys paying for this out of their pockets? I mean, that's the feeling I got when I read this-

Why does Search With Alice in Chains give away prizes?
We believe strongly in rewarding our fans for their loyalty and our prizes are our way of thanking you. No registration is required. Try it, you'll be hooked - we guarantee it!

These guys are really just awesome people either way, but doing this jumps them up so many levels... I'll take a minute to get all sappy, since I've been realizing just how much Alice affects my life. It's pretty cool when a band can go above their music and have fans of who they are and what they stand for. And this praise isn't a simple "Ooh I could get something free so I like them" because, with dial up, me and my 2 Swag Bucks are going to get pretty close before another comes up. I've got a pretty good idea that I won't win anything the whole time it exists. It's just insane to me that, under different circumstances, I can picture these guys quadding over from a few houses down to play cards here on Friday nights, and I'd like them the same as I do in reality. Or, hell, that I could even entertain the idea of hanging out with them. There isn't a big, ego-filled gap between AiC and its fans. In this year I've listened to Alice in Chains, I've gained an incalculable amount of respect for them as people and musicians, and they've set the standard for the other bands I listen to. There's nothing I can say that no one else has said already, but I needed to get that out. I'm brutally aware the band probably won't see this, but I hope they realize how much I- we all- appreciate them and everything they do for us
