"there's just this truth, this sincerity that permeates everything."
Sometimes, you come across something that resonates so deeply within you that no matter where you are you find yourself gravitating towards it. For me, your music is one of those things.
I first heard "Rotten Apple" while riding in the back of my uncle's truck. I was thirteen. I remember the whole rest of the day I kept hearing the album, either playing in my uncle's stereo or in my head.. I haven't really shaken it since. There's just this truth, this sincerity that permeates everything. I'm twenty now, enrolled in the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA and your songs mean more now than ever. I can always move my brush when your songs are in the air.
So, for all the inspiration, for all the words, all the chords, for all it's worth... Thank you.

"...every chance I got I would request your songs on 107.7 The Bone."
I just wanted to pay a little respect to my favorite band (Alice in Chains)... I got my first dose of the grunge seen in 1998 when I was in 6th grade. My sister and her friends would listen to Nirvana, STP, and similar bands (AiC) every now and then... After the first time hearing "Rooster" I was hooked, I would steal my sisters CD's all the time just to listen to the grunge music!! Jerry Cantrell's lyrics paired up with Layne Stanley's voice, along with the sounds of Jerry, Mike, and Sean were like nothing I had ever heard before! Well some time had flew by with me occasionally listening to AiC, and hearing many of there songs on 107.7 The Bone (local rock station in the Bay Area). Well 2006 came around and out of nowhere it was like 6th grade all over again, accept for the fact of being 20 now. Everyday this year I would listen to AiC Greatest Hits and every chance I got I would request your songs on 107.7 The Bone.
Well, me and two buddies of mine decided to see your show up in Konocti Harbor Resort this year and let me tell you it was the greatest experience ever. I would have to say that you guys grabbing William Duvall to sing the lead vocals was a great thing, he belted the songs out just like Layne would have!! That was my first and only concert I have been to and don't plan on seeing another one anytime soon... Until you guys tour again? (Please!) Lastly I would like to say that on that local radio station (107.7 The Bone) at lunch time everyday, Steven Seaweed (DJ) does this thing called "Hot Lunch On Demand" where they have a different theme everyday... My luck came on a day where the theme was "Favorite Songwriter". It's damn near impossible to get through on the phone during H.L.O.D. but for some reason that day I got through and told him my favorite songwriter (Jerry Cantrell) and requested to hear "Rooster," the song that got me hooked!! Anyways... Thank you guys for putting out the best music there is and I can't wait for the next tour or any new music from you!

"...either I'm going to get the opportunity of a life time or totally miss out."
I was exposed to AiC when I was maybe five or six years old, around '95 or '96. I had the Sap album, which my father bought me. I never thought much of it, being so young I didn't know you could do more with music than like listening to it. Years later, AiC found me again, I don't know how, but it certainly happened for a reason. I began listening, buying and researching the band and their albums. I caught up on the history and the present status of the band, and thought to myself "What I would give to see these guys play." What a surreal thought, right? I thought so until my father told me he was going to see Alice in Chains, "Do you have extra tickets?" I asked, "I don't know, but someone might not be able to go". So for a long while a little thought floated around my head, either I'm going to get the opportunity of a life time or totally miss out. Late October I get a call: "Can you go?" my dad says, "Hell yeah." I quickly responded. On November 1st, 2006, a cold Wednesday night, I found myself on a train destined for a life changing experience. I am so grateful for that opportunity. That show at Nokia Theatre in NYC was the greatest experience in my life.
Thanks so much for the music, for the emotion, for the originality, for the inspiration. Your music has taught me some valuable lessons that I wouldn't have been able to comprehend from anyone else. You all deserve a respect greater than any you can find on this planet. Thanks for making it possible for younger people like me to say "I saw Alice in Chains." I aspire to go on and do greater things with my life because of you. Rest Peacefully Layne and may the rest of you continue to create the beautiful sounds you are known for.

How's that for a first concert?
How fortunate and rich have our lives become thanks to AiC!!!!! {Dec 21 1991, The Paramount Theater, Seattle} It was a bet for me, my friend and I were 17 standing at the counter of our local Ticketmaster. We had never been to a concert before and really didn't know much about AiC. So I took the bet and bought the ticket; what did I have to lose it was only $10 for a ticket because it was KISW's 20th anniversary. What a life changing event! The sights, the smells and the massive power of sound coming from the amps and PA, what wonderful sensory overload. The two opening acts were Sweet Water and My Sister's Machine {if I'm not mistaken I believe Owen who is in My Sister's Machine was the original guitarist for AiC}.
As if that were not enough, at the end of the show they had some yahoos in some strangely named band called "Pearl Jam" and some woman with earth shattering vocals named Ann Wilson come out and sing "Queen of the Rodeo" as the finale!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How's that for a first concert? That's like seeing the Beetles and them having Elvis and Jimi Hendrix come out and sing some songs!!!! So since that AiC show I've seen them three other times; the last was September 23 2004 in Seattle at the Graceland with Queensryche doing an all acoustic show and at the end Jerry and Sean came out and sang "All Apologies" by Nirvana!!!!! Thank you AiC for the life long memories that I share with my kids on a regular basis. And thank you Layne for sharing your gift I am forever indebted!
